Mayavi
''Māyāvi'' is a Malayalam comic strip appearing in the Indian comic magazine ''Balarama'' owned by MM Publications. The series, was first published in the August 1984 issue of Balarama. Artist M. Mohandas gradually took over the drawing of the series after Balarama became a fortnightly. Māyāvi, the protagonist in the series, is an imp, who helps keep the forest safe from villains and dark wizards. Most of the stories revolves around how two dark magicians and their companions try to capture Māyāvi, but fail hilariously. ''Māyāvi'' takes place in a secluded forest in Kerala. It is not exactly known when the story takes place. In the local language Malayalam Māyāvi is a combination of two words (māya+āvi) when translated mean magic and spirit respectively. As the target audience is young, the story takes the liberty to draw a fantasy world, in which wizards, demons and other strange creatures exist. ''Poompatta'' (Malayalam: പൂമ്പാറ്റ; ) is a Malayalam comic magazine started publishing in 1964. It was initially owned by P. A. Warrier and later by Sithara Publications and from 1978 by Pai and Pai Company (PAICO). Poompatta under PAICO was the first Malayalam children's publisher to syndicate comics produced by India Book House (Amar Chitra Katha) and publish Amar Chitra Katha in Malayalam. ''Poompatta'' under PAICO is considered as "one of the pioneering children’s magazines in Malayalam". ''Balarama'' () is an Indian weekly comic magazine published by M. M. Publications, of Malayala Manorama Group from Kottayam, Kerala in Malayalam language (digest-sized, on every Friday). It is one of most widely read children's magazines in India (Indian Readership Survey 2019, Quarter IV). Balarama celebrated its 50th year of publication in the year 2022. Starting as a monthly for teenage youngsters in March 1972, the ''Balarama'' became a fortnightly periodical in November 1984, before finally settling as a weekly in 1999. Palai
Pallai ( ta, பளை, si, පල්ලෙයි), also spelt Palai, is a small town in the Kilinochchi District, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. It is located near the coast on the northern peninsula, approximately south-east of Jaffna. In 1861 the Church Mission Society sent Rev. John Backus to Pallai to establish a Christian community in the town. This led to the construction and dedication of St. Andrew's Church on 30 November 1895. In 1921 the government declared a area adjacent to the town as a forest reserve. Transport Pallai is located on the (A9) Kandy-Jaffna Highway. It is served by a railway station on the national network which was out of use due to war damage. In 2009, agreements were made to restore the line back into service. Vaikom Chandrasekharan Nair ( ml, വൈക്കം ചന്ദ്രശേഖരൻ നായർ; 1920 – 12 April 2005), popularly known as Vaikom ( ml, വൈക്കം), was an Indian writer and journalist who wrote primarily in Malayalam. Amar Chitra Katha (ACK Comics) is an Indian publisher of Indian comics and graphic novels. Most of its comics are based on religious legends and epics, historical figures and biographies, folktales and cultural stories. The company was founded in 1967 by Anant Pai and is headquartered in Mumbai. Creation and influence The comic series was started by Anant Pai in an attempt to teach Indian children about their cultural heritage. He was shocked that Indian students could answer questions on Greek and Roman mythology, but were ignorant of their own history, mythology and folklore.
