N.K.P. Salve
Narendra Kumar Prasadrao Salve (18 March 1921 – 1 April 2012) was a veteran Indian politician from Indian National Congress, parliamentarian and a cricket administrator. Former Union minister and president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) (1982–1985), he was instrumental in bringing the Cricket World Cup outside England and to the Indian subcontinent in 1987. Salve was a staunch advocate for the separate statehood of Vidarbha. Early life and education N. K. P. Salve was born in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, on 18 March 1921 to Marathi Christians parents Prasadrao Keshavrao Salve and Cornelia Karuna Jadhav. His father was a lawyer and freedom fighter from Ujjain and his Marathi mother was a renowned scholar, freedom fighter and the first woman in India to receive an honours degree in mathematics. The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is the highest post at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which administers cricket in India. Though the post is an honorary one, it is considered a highly prestigious post due to popularity of the game in the India and the financial clout of the organisation. The Lok Sabha, constitutionally the House of the People, is the lower house of India's bicameral Parliament, with the upper house being the Rajya Sabha. Members of the Lok Sabha are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the President on the advice of the council of ministers. The NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, commonly referred to as the Challenger Series, was an Indian List A cricket tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Established in the 1994–1995 season, the tournament was played to showcase the country's talent and providing opportunities for younger players to make an impression. The tournament was played in October every year until the 2013–14 season before Ranji Trophy season. The 1987 Cricket World Cup (officially known as the Reliance Cup 1987 for sponsorship reasons) was the fourth Cricket World Cup. It was held from 8 October to 8 November 1987 in India and Pakistan – the first such tournament to be held outside England. The one-day format was unchanged from the eight-team 1983 event except for a reduction in the number of overs a team played from 60 to 50, the current standard for all ODIs.
