NEC Nijmegen (''Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie''), commonly known as NEC (), is a professional Dutch association football club based in Nijmegen. The club currently competes in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, following promotion from the 2020–21 Eerste Divisie. The club has reached the final of the KNVB Cup on four occasions – in 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2000 – but has never won any major silverware. History 1900–1919: Merger and early years The oldest remnant of NEC Nijmegen, Eendracht, was formed on 15 November 1900 by three men - August Lodenstijn, Antoon Kuypers and Wouter de Lent - representing the people from the ''benedenstad'' (lower town) who, due to their working class status, were not able to play for the major club in the city, Quick 1888. 2020–21 Eerste Divisie
The 2020–21 Eerste Divisie, known as Keuken Kampioen Divisie for sponsorship reasons, was the sixty-fifth season of Eerste Divisie since its establishment in 1955. It began on 28 August 2020, and came to an end on 12 May 2021. Relegation for reserve teams On 1 August 2020, the KNVB detailed on its website in what scenarios the reserve teams in the league would have been relegated from the Eerste Divisie. The 2021–22 Eredivisie was the 66th season of Eredivisie, the premier football competition in the Netherlands. It began on 14 August 2021 and concluded on 15 May 2022. Goffertpark
The Goffertpark is a public park in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. The park, which is sometimes used as an outdoor concert venue, also holds the stadium of football club N.E.C. Rogier Meijer
Rogier Meijer (born 5 September 1981) is a Dutch professional football coach and former player, who is the head coach of Eredivisie club NEC. As a player, Meijer appeared his entire professional career for De Graafschap as a midfielder. In May 2014, Meijer announced his retirement from professional football. After a year at his former amateur team VIOD, Meijer completely stopped playing football. Coaching career In his last year as an active footballer, Meijer was hired by De Graafschap as the manager of the U14's. The Goffertstadion (), formerly known as McDOS Goffertstadion for sponsorship reasons, is a association football, football stadium in Nijmegen, Netherlands, located in the Goffertpark. It is home to football club NEC (football club), NEC. The stadium was opened on 8 July 1939 by Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands.
