Münchhausen Prize
The Münchhausen Prize was instituted in 1997, the 200th anniversary of the death of Baron von Münchhausen. It is awarded in May each year in Bodenwerder, the Baron's hometown, for special talent in the art of speaking or presentation, either in literature or the visual arts, fantasy and satire, in the sense of the Baron. The prize money is €2,556. Baron Von Münchhausen
Baron Munchausen (; ) is a fictional German nobleman created by the German writer Rudolf Erich Raspe in his 1785 book '' Baron Munchausen's Narrative of his Marvellous Travels and Campaigns in Russia''. The character is loosely based on a real baron, Hieronymus Karl Friedrich, Freiherr von Münchhausen. Born in Bodenwerder, Electorate of Hanover, the real-life Münchhausen fought for the Russian Empire in the Russo-Turkish War of 1735–1739. Upon retiring in 1760, he became a minor celebrity within German aristocratic circles for telling outrageous tall tales based on his military career. After hearing some of Münchhausen's stories, Raspe adapted them anonymously into literary form, first in German as ephemeral magazine pieces and then in English as the 1785 book, which was first published in Oxford by a bookseller named Smith. Hans-Jürgen Hubert Dohrenkamp (born 8 June 1948), better known by his stage name Jürgen von der Lippe, is a German television presenter, entertainer, actor and comedian. His stage name comes from the fact that he was born near the source of the river Lippe. Life Jürgen von der Lippe was born Hans-Jürgen Dohrenkamp in Bad Salzuflen and grew up in Aachen, where he attended the Kaiser-Karls- Gymnasium and was a Catholic altar boy. Christoph Maria Herbst (born 9 February 1966) is a German actor and comedian. Early life Herbst was born in Wuppertal. After passing the Abitur, he became a trainee banker and was active at the free theatre scene in Wuppertal at the same time. Dieter Herbert Nuhr (born 29 October 1960) is a German kabarett artist, comedian, author and television presenter. Nuhr's stage program ''nuhr in Berlin'' (the title is a pun; for explanation, see below) is the first German stand-up comedy which was created exclusively for Netflix. Annette Frier (born 22 January 1974) is a German actress and comedian. Early life She has a younger sister, Caroline (born 1983) and an older sister. Dieter "Didi" Hallervorden (born 5 September 1935) is a German comedian, actor, singer, and cabaret artist. He achieved great popularity in German-speaking countries in the mid-1970s with the slapstick series Nonstop Nonsens and his character Didi.
