Breisach
Breisach (formerly Altbreisach; Low Alemannic: ''Alt-Brisach'') is a town with approximately 16,500 inhabitants, situated along the Rhine in the Rhine Valley, in the district Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, about halfway between Freiburg and Colmar — 20 kilometres away from each — and about 60 kilometres north of Basel near the Kaiserstuhl. A bridge leads over the Rhine to Neuf-Brisach, Alsace. Its name is Celtic and means breakwater. The root ''Breis'' can also be found in the French word ''briser'' meaning to break. The hill, on which Breisach came into existence was — at least when there was a flood — in the middle of the Rhine, until the Rhine was straightened by the engineer Johann Gottfried Tulla in the 19th century, thus breaking its surge. Bad Krozingen
Bad Krozingen (; Alemannic: ''Bad Chrotzige'') is a spa town in the district Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated 15 km southwest of Freiburg. In the 1970s, the previously independent villages Biengen, Hausen an der Möhlin, Schlatt and Tunsel, including Schmidhofen, became part of Bad Krozingen. Geography Location Bad Krozingen is located in Breisgau, about 15 km southwest of Freiburg and 45 km north of Basel, surrounded by corn and tobacco fields. Bollschweil
Bollschweil is a municipality in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located approximately 10 km south of Freiburg. History The earliest surviving written record of the settlement appears in the records of the monastery at St Gallen, dated 838. At this time Bollschweil was named Puabilinisvilare. The town's subsequent history is closely entwined with that of the aristocratic Snewlin-Bernlapp family, a branch of the Snewlin family which was extremely influential throughout the Breisgau region. When, in 1837, the Snewlin-Bernlapps died out, the castle and settlement came into the hands of the von Holzing-Berstett family, whose descendants still inhabit the castle. Ehrenkirchen is a municipality in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. History The villages of Ehrenstetten, Kirchhofen, Norsingen, Offnadingen, and Scherzingen were properties of Saint Blaise Abbey, Black Forest until 1806, when they were mediatized to the Grand Duchy of Baden. They were assigned to the district of Staufen im Breisgau until 1936, when they were reassigned to the district of Freiburg im Breisgau.
