Mário Reis (singer)
Mário da Silveira Meireles Reis (31 December 1907 – 5 October 1981 in Rio de Janeiro), also known as Bacharel do Samba was a popular Brazilian samba singer, active between 1928 and 1971. He collaborated with artists such as Francisco Alves, Carmen Miranda, Aracy de Almeida and Noel Rosa and was particularly successful as a radio singer. Biography He graduated in Law and Social Sciences in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Faculty of Law, attending the same classes of Ary Barroso (LLB, 1929). He recorded many hits with Carmen Miranda and Francisco Alves, with whom also performed frequently in the 1930s, all of which are regarded as amongst the finest Brazilian singers of this period. He toured in Brazil and also Argentina. As a singer, he was known for his gentle tone, which compensated for the lack of vocal power. Alô, Alô, Carnaval (Hello, Hello Carnival) is a 1936 Brazilian musical comedy film directed and produced by Adhemar Gonzaga and Wallace Downey, and released by the Cinédia production company. ''Hello, Hello, Carnival'' was the first Brazilian film to use playback in its musical numbers. Limiting this process to only a few choice scenes, direct live audio can still be heard in the background. Francisco De Morais Alves
Francisco de Morais Alves (August 19, 1898 – September 27, 1952), better known as Francisco Alves, Chico Alves or Chico Viola, was a Brazilian singer, one of the most popular in the first half of the 20th century, and considered by many to be the greatest in the country. The quality of his work earned him in 1933, by broadcaster César Ladeira, the nickname "Rei da Voz" (Voice King). He recorded more than 500 78 rpm albums, among them the first electrical recording made in Brazil. He performed songs composed by musicians such as Cartola, Heitor dos Prazeres and Ismael Silva; and several songs became famous in his voice, like "Ai! que saudade da Amélia", or the first recording of samba "Aquarela do Brasil" by Ary Barroso.
