Myrmekiaphila Neilyoungi
''Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi'' is a species of spider in the family Euctenizidae, described in 2007 by East Carolina University professor of biology Jason Bond, Jason E. Bond and Norman I. Platnick, curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. It is named after Canadians, Canadian rock musician Neil Young. Bond & Platnick described the male holotype and female paratype, which were collected in Jefferson County, Alabama, Jefferson County, Alabama, in 1998. While specimens have been collected repeatedly since 1940, it was only in 2007 that they were recognized as a new species. He co-wrote a paper revising the genus with Norman I. Platnick, describing this and several other new species. ''M. neilyoungi'' is widely distributed throughout Alabama, with one known locality from northwestern Florida. Jason Bond
Jason E. Bond is a Professor of Entomology and the Schlinger Chair in Insect Systematics at the University of California, Davis. He was previously Professor of Biology, Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences and Director of the Auburn University Museum of Natural History at Auburn University. When he was an associate professor with the Department of Biology at East Carolina University, he discovered the spider ''Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi'' and numerous other species in the genus ''Aptostichus''. He went to undergraduate school at Western Carolina University, majoring in biology in 1993. He then went to receive his M.S. in Biology (1995) and Ph.D. in Evolutionary Systematics and Genetics (1999) from Virginia Tech. In zoology and botany, a paratype is a specimen of an organism that helps define what the scientific name of a species and other taxon actually represents, but it is not the holotype (and in botany is also neither an isotype nor a syntype). The Tree of Life Web Project is an Internet project providing information about the diversity and phylogeny of life on Earth. This collaborative peer reviewed project began in 1995, and is written by biologists from around the world. The site has not been updated since 2011, however the pages are still accessible. The pages are linked hierarchically, in the form of the branching evolutionary tree of life, organized cladistically. Each page contains information about one particular group of organisms and is organized according to a branched tree-like form, thus showing hypothetical relationships between different groups of organisms. The wafer trapdoor spiders, family Cyrtaucheniidae, are a widespread family of spiders that lack the thorn-like spines on tarsi and metatarsi I and II (the two outermost leg segments) found in true trapdoor spiders (Ctenizidae). Etymology The scientific family name derives from the Greek κυρταύχην, ''kyrtaúchēn'', which in turn is derived from Greek κυρτός ''kyrtós'', meaning "curved", "arched" or "bent", αὐχήν ''auchen'', meaning the cervix or neck, and the suffix -''idae'', which designates belonging to a family.
