Myriad Search
Myriad Search was a metasearch engine developed by Aaron Wall which offered ad-free search results. Myriad Search allowed users to select search results from Ask Jeeves, Google, MSN, and Yahoo It was trialled ("in beta") from September 16, 2005, and in February 2006 Wall made the source code available as open source. He withdrew it altogether in 2009 because it had stopped working with Google. Myriad Search allowed users to select search depth and place bias on the search results from each of the major search engines. Searchers could promote engines that were providing results relevant to their query and demote or deselect engines which were providing irrelevant results. Myriad Search also made it easy for searchers to tab through the search results one engine at a time. Metasearch Engine
A metasearch engine (or search aggregator) is an online information retrieval tool that uses the data of a web search engine to produce its own results. Metasearch engines take input from a user and immediately query search engines for results. Sufficient data is gathered, ranked, and presented to the users. Problems such as spamming reduces the accuracy and precision of results. The process of fusion aims to improve the engineering of a metasearch engine. Examples of metasearch engines include Skyscanner and Kayak.com, which aggregate search results of online travel agencies and provider websites and Searx, a free and open-source search engine which aggregates results from internet search engines. Ask.com (originally known as Ask Jeeves) is a question answering–focused e-business founded in 1996 by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California. The original software was implemented by Gary Chevsky, from his own design. Warthen, Chevsky, Justin Grant, and others built the early AskJeeves.com website around that core engine. Yahoo! Search is a Yahoo! internet search provider that uses Microsoft's Microsoft Bing, Bing search engine to power results, since 2009, apart from four years with Google Search, Google until 2019. Search Engine Watch (SEW) provides news and information about search engines and search engine marketing. Search Engine Watch was started by Danny Sullivan (technologist), Danny Sullivan in 1996.
