Myra is an unincorporated community located within the town of Trenton in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. History The hamlet of Myra was platted by Chauncy Gray and Jacob E. Young. The name for the hamlet, Myra, was originally named by Young's wife who found the name Myra in her Bible. Myra was predominantly a Bohemian settlement. It was a busy and industrious little village in its early days. The pond located near the hamlet was a fine fishing and recreational area. The fish were so prolific that sometimes the waterwheel was blocked by the huge pickerel weighing as much as twelve pounds. There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. North American telephone area code 262 covers much of Southeastern Wisconsin, and was created on September 25, 1999, when it was split from area code 414. It covers most of the suburbs of Milwaukee, but not Milwaukee County itself. The eastern portion of Wisconsin had been served by 414 for half a century until Green Bay and the Fox River Valley split off as area code 920 in 1997. Although this was intended as a long-term solution, within a year 414 was back to the brink of exhaustion due to the continued proliferation of cell phones and pagers. When it became apparent that 414 was running out of numbers, original plans called for 262 to be an overlay for all of southeastern Wisconsin. However, overlays were a new concept at the time, and met with some resistance to the mixing of area codes in the same area and the ensuing requirement for ten-digit dialing. Trenton is a town in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,440 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Myra is located within the town. Geography The Milwaukee River bisects the Town of Trenton. The north branch of Cedar Creek runs through the town. Wallace Lake is in the northwestern corner of the town on the boundary with the Town of Barton.
