Wappingers Central School District (WCSD) is a school district headquartered in the town of East Fishkill, New York, on Corporate Park Drive. History On November 30, 1937, in the southern portion of Dutchess County, New York, there was a meeting held to determine the consolidation of area school districts. The district was created after a September 1938 vote within all or portions of several communities in Dutchess and Putnam counties, including Wappinger, East Fishkill, Fishkill, and Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County and Kent and Philipstown in Putnam County, approved the establishment of the WCSD. Upon opening the district had attained 11 schools. In the 1950s the East Fishkill Number 6, Gayhead, Old Hopewell, Shenendoah, and Stormville school districts were consolidated into the Wappingers district. East Fishkill, New York
East Fishkill is a town on the southern border of Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 29,707 at the 2020 census. The town was once the eastern portion of the town of Fishkill. Hudson Valley Research Park is located in the town. The site once known as IBM East Fishkill, once housed 27 divisions and 4,700 regular employees for IBM Microelectronics, which latter became a part of GlobalFoundries. IBM produced microchips at this facility and it also house the advanced, automated processor fabrication facility where IBM's "Cell" processor was co-developed. Fishkill is a town in the southwestern part of Dutchess County, New York, United States. It lies approximately north of New York City. The population was 22,107 at the 2010 census. Kent, New York
Kent is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 12,900 at the 2020 census. The name is that of an early settler family. The town is in the north-central part of the Putnam County. Many of the lakes are reservoirs for New York City. History Kent was part of the Philipse Patent of 1697, when it was still populated by the Wappinger tribe. Daniel Nimham (1724–1778) was the last chief of the Wappingers and was the most prominent Native American of his time in the Hudson Valley. Roy Charles Hammond (August 3, 1939 – September 16, 2020), better known as Roy C or Roy "C", was an American southern soul singer, songwriter and record executive, best known for his 1965 hit, "Shotgun Wedding". Another song, " Impeach the President", which he recorded and produced with a high school group, the Honey Drippers, has had one of the most sampled drum tracks in hip hop music. Life and career Roy Hammond was born in Newington, Georgia. He began singing tenor with The Genies, a vocal group in Long Beach, Long Island, who were later offered a recording contract by record producer Bob Shad. John Jay Senior High School is a public high school on State Route 52 in the town of East Fishkill, New York. The school teaches grades 9 through 12. Hopewell Junction is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 1330 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie– Newburgh– Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY- NJ- CT- PA Combined Statistical Area.
