John Jay High School (Hopewell Junction, New York)
John Jay Senior High School is a public high school on State Route 52 in the town of East Fishkill, New York. The school teaches grades 9 through 12. Students from Van Wyck who have successfully completed the 8th grade continue to the 9th grade at John Jay. The school is a part of the Wappingers Central School District. History John Jay was built in 1968 to accommodate the growth of the Wappingers School District. Prior to its construction, Roy C. Ketcham High School was the district's only high school, away in Wappingers Falls. The 1973 graduating class was the first class to have completed four full years at John Jay HS. Section 1 (NYSPHSAA)
Section 1 is a high school athletic organization that is one of the eleven sections of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). It is made up of high schools from around the southern portion of the Hudson Valley. The section offers "modified athletics" administration covering grades 7-9 middle school competition in area middle schools (grade 9 is officially part of the high school level). Schools will sometimes compete with other schools outside of the section in tournaments or invitationals. The section is further divided into leagues based on mostly location but also the size of the school. It generally runs from west to east through five counties, beginning at the Pennsylvania state line in the Delaware River near Narrowsburg, crossing the Hudson River on the Newburgh–Beacon Bridge, and ending in Carmel. East Fishkill is a town on the southern border of Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 29,707 at the 2020 census. The town was once the eastern portion of the town of Fishkill. Hudson Valley Research Park is located in the town.
