Mussorgsky (film)
''Mussorgsky'' (russian: Мусоргский, Musorgskiy) is a 1950 Soviet biopic film directed by Grigori Roshal, about the emergence of Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. It was entered into the 1951 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The film tells about the activities of the association of composers "The Five (composers), The Five", who were drawing inspiration from Russian folk art. Like many representatives of the Russian intelligentsia, members of this musical community were imbued with the plight of the peasants and sought to write works that would draw people's attention to this poorest layer of society. The young composer Modest Mussorgsky decides to devote his life to music and to make it the property of the people. Only his mother supports his “ignoble” undertakings. The young man leaves military service and ponders writing a work about the peasants, together with members of The Five. Grigori Roshal
Grigori Lvovich Roshal (russian: Григорий Львович Рошаль; October 21, 1899 – January 11, 1983) was a Soviet film director and screenwriter. He directed 26 films between 1926 and 1968. Biography Grigori Roshal was born on 21 in October 1899 (according to other sources either on 20 in October 1899 or in 1898 ), in the city of Novozybkov (now Bryansk Oblast, Russia). After graduating from the Tenishev School in St. Petersburg he was employed at the People's Commissariat for Education of Ukraine and Crimea between the years 1918 and 1919. Since 1919 he was an instructor at the People's Commissariat of Azerbaijan, selected as head of the artistic and educational part of the children's playground in Zheleznovodsk. Igor Borisovich Dmitriev (russian: И́горь Бори́сович Дми́триев) (29 May 1927 – 26 January 2008) was a Soviet and Russian film and theatre actor who specialized in playing aristocratic characters in costume productions (e.g., Rosencrantz in Grigori Kozintsev's ''Hamlet''). Igor Dmitriev was born in Leningrad to parents Boris Petrovich Dmitriev, a professional yachtsman and Elena Tauber, a ballerina. In 1948 he graduated from the Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre and in 1949 became an actor of the Vera Komissarzhevskaya Theater of Drama in Leningrad. From 1967 to 1984 he worked at Lenfilm. In 1984 he started working at the Nikolay Akimov Theater of Comedy. Dmitriev worked with Georgi Tovstonogov, Sergei Gerasimov, Yan Frid. Nikolay Trofimov
Nikolay Nikolaevich Trofimov (russian: Никола́й Никола́евич Трофи́мов; January 21, 1920, Sevastopol — November 7, 2005, St. Petersburg) was a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1990). Biography Nikolay Trofimov was born into a working-class family. Stage career began in 1934. During the Great Patriotic War he served in the navy. On the stage Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater played more than 40 roles. In the cinema, Nikolai Trofimov played mostly small roles. Nikolay Nikolaevich Trofimov died on the night of November 7, 2005 in the St. Petersburg Alexandrovsky hospital from the consequences of a stroke. Osip Afanasievich Petrov (russian: link=no, Осип Афанасиевич Петров, ) was a Russian operatic bass-baritone of great range and renown, whose career centred on St Petersburg. Biography Osip Petrov was born in Yelisavetgrad (now Kropyvnytskyi) in Ukraine, then part of Russia. He started his career by singing in a church chorus.
