Lake Muskoka
Lake Muskoka is located between Port Carling and Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada. The lake is surrounded by many cottages. The lake is primarily within the boundary of the Township of Muskoka Lakes, the southeast corner is within the boundary of the Town of Gravenhurst and another small portion around the mouth of the Muskoka River is within the boundary of the Town of Bracebridge. The town of Bala is located on the southwest shores of the lake, where the Moon River starts. Lake Muskoka is connected to Lake Rosseau through the Indian River and lock system at Port Carling. The lake is mainly fed by the Muskoka River, Lake Joseph and Lake Rosseau. The Township of Muskoka Lakes is a municipality of the District Municipality of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada. It has a year-round population of 6,588. The municipal offices are located in Port Carling. History The area now covered by the township was opened for settlement and organized in 1870 into the following geographic (and sometime municipal) townships of Watt, Cardwell, Humphrey, Christie, Medora and Wood. Parry Sound—Muskoka is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1949. Muskoka Airport is a small regional airport located south of Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on a call-out basis. CBSA officers at this airport can handle general aviation aircraft only, with no more than 15 passengers. History The airport began construction in 1933 as part of the make-work project during the Great Depression. Staff were paid $1 plus keep per day to clear and level the landing strip. It was opened in 1936 as Reay Airport and renamed to the current name in 1938. From 1942 to end of World War II, it served as a training facility for the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Muskoka Brewery (formerly Muskoka Cottage Brewery) is a microbrewery founded in June 1996 as a part-time operation by Gary McMullen and Kirk Evans. By 2016, it had increased to 130 employees in a facility that is over in size. The company manufactures a line of beers, including Cream Ale, Mad Tom IPA, Dark, Craft Lager, Ebb & Flow, Detour and Shinnicked Stout. The Muskoka Wharf is located in the town of Gravenhurst, Ontario on the southern edge of Muskoka Bay on Lake Muskoka.
