Musikalische Exequien
Musikalische Exequien (Funeral music), Op. 7, SWV 279–281 is a sacred composition that Heinrich Schütz wrote in 1635 or 1636. Written for the funeral services of Count Henry II, Count of Reuss-Gera, who had died on 3 December 1635, it is Schütz's most famous work of funeral music. Benoît Haller is a French conductor and tenor, born in Strasbourg in 1972. Biography Benoît Haller studied choral and orchestral conducting with Hans Michael Beuerle at the Hochschule für Musik in Fribourg-en-Brisgau. He studied singing with Hélène Roth then Beata Heuer-Christen, Gerd Heinz (opera) and Hans Peter Müller (song repertoire) from 1992 to 2002. His repertoire includes baroque opera and classic and romantic oratorio. He is the founder and musical director of the French baroque musical ensemble La Chapelle Rhénane, which he has headed since 2001. His sister, Salomé Haller, is an operatic soprano. Matteo Messori (born 23 April 1976, in Bologna, Italy) is an Italian keyboard player, conductor, musicologist, composer and teacher. He performs on period instruments including the harpsichord, pipe organ, clavichord and pedal piano. He founded the early music ensemble Cappella Augustana. Biography Matteo Messori was born in Bologna where he initially studied piano under the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli pupil Franca Fogli and later organ and counterpoint with Umberto Pineschi, graduating cum laude. He was the founder of the Alsfelder Vokalensemble and served as their conductor for decades, a group that toured internationally and received awards for their recordings. Sir John Eliot Gardiner (born 20 April 1943) is an English conductor, particularly known for his performances of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Life and career Born in Fontmell Magna, Dorset, son of Rolf Gardiner and Marabel Hodgkin, Gardiner's early musical experience came largely through singing with his family and in a local church choir. The Monteverdi Choir was founded in 1964 by Sir John Eliot Gardiner for a performance of the ''Vespro della Beata Vergine'' in King's College Chapel, Cambridge.
