Music Victoria Awards Of 2018
The Music Victoria Awards of 2018 are the 13th Annual Music Victoria Awards and consist of a series of awards, presented on 21 November 2018, during Melbourne Music Week. The Melbourne Recital Centre hosted the event for the first time, and, also for the first time, the Victorian Government provided $10,000 to the Best Victorian Album of 2018, and $5,000 to the Best Victorian Breakthrough Act of 2018. On the 6 August 2018, a number of categories change were announced for the 2018 event. *The awards for ''Best Male'' and ''Female Act'' were renamed to ''Best Male'' and ''Female Musician'' accordingly. *The ''Best Solo Artist'' category was introduced to include gender non-conforming artists. Gareth Liddiard
Gareth Liddiard (born 20 November 1975) is an Australian musician, best known as a founding member of both The Drones and Tropical Fuck Storm. Musically active since 1997, he has also released a solo album titled ''Strange Tourist'' in 2010. In 2021, Liddiard recorded and performed live with Jim White of the Dirty Three and Chris Abrahams of The Necks as Springtime. Cable Ties (band)
Cable Ties are a punk rock band from Melbourne, Australia formed in 2015. Guitarist and singer Jenny McKechnie moved to Melbourne from Bendigo with a background in folk music, and was introduced to the city's burgeoning punk music scene by a friend, Grace Kindellan, who formed a band (Wet Lips) with McKechnie on bass guitar. McKechnie joined bassist Nick Brown and drummer Shauna Boyle to form Cable Ties in 2015, with the band naming itself after cable ties in reference to the band's "very physical but functional" sound. They played their earliest gigs at The Tote Hotel in Collingwood and The Old Bar in Fitzroy, and their first album, the self-titled ''Cable Ties'' was released in May 2017. Amyl And The Sniffers
Amyl and the Sniffers are an Australian pub rock and punk rock band based in Melbourne, consisting of vocalist Amy Taylor, drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Dec Martens, and bassist Gus Romer. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2019, their self-titled debut record won the Best Rock Album category. Kaiit ( ), born Kaiit Bellamia Waup on 29 October 1997 in Papua New Guinea), is a neo soul singer from Melbourne, Victoria. Tash Sultana (born 15 June 1995) is an Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and engineer, described as a " one-woman band". Alexandra Lahey ( ) (born 30 July 1992) is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
