Murray Upper is a rural locality in the Cassowary Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Murray Upper had a population of 266 people. Geography The Murray River rises in Murray Upper and enters the Coral Sea at neighbouring Bilyana. Almost all of the locality is mountainous (rising to peaks of about 900 metres about sea level) and is within the Girramay National Park. Only a small area in the north-east of the locality is outside the national park and is flat land about 20 metres about sea level and this land is used for farming with sugarcane and bananas being important crops. Girramay National Park
Girramay is a national park in Queensland, Australia, 1269 km northwest of Brisbane. The national park is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland, Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The park protects part of the coastline between the mouths of the Tully River and Meunga Creek at Rockingham Bay. Waters adjacent to the park belong to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Flora The coastal plain contains mangrove and freshwater swamps associated with the waterways of Murray River, Dallachy Creek and Wreck Creek. Other vegetation types include low coastal rainforest, eucalyptus forest, melaleuca woodland and sedge swamp. Wet Tropics World Heritage Area
The Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Site consists of approximately 8,940 km2 of Australian wet tropical forests growing along the north-east Queensland portion of the Great Dividing Range. The Wet Tropics of Queensland meets all four of the criteria for natural heritage for selection as a World Heritage Site. World Heritage status was declared in 1988, and on 21 May 2007 the Wet Tropics were added to the Australian National Heritage List. The tropical forests have the highest concentration of primitive flowering plant families in the world. Murray Falls
The Murray Falls, a cascade waterfall on the Murray River, is located in the UNESCO World Heritagelisted Wet Tropics in Murray Upper, Cassowary Coast Region in the Far North region of Queensland, Australia. Location and features The Murray Falls are situated in the Girramay National Park, approximately southwest of , off the Bruce Highway between Tully and . The falls descend between and may be viewed from a boardwalk and viewing platform.
