Murray Corner, New Brunswick
Murray Corner is a community in the Canadian province of New Brunswick in Westmorland County on Route 955. Murray Corner is on the Northumberland Strait; its main sources of recreation are boating, snowmobiling, horseback riding and other outdoor activities. Murray Corner is also the home of the Murray Beach Provincial Park. The former local service district took its name from the community. History Located north of Murray Road, on the road to Bayfield: Botsford Parish, Westmorland County: David Murray, Joseph Murray, Andrew Murray and John Murray, originally from Scotland, settled here about 1822: PO 1853–1913 with Pinquey Murray as the first postmaster: in 1866 Murray Corner was a farming and fishing settlement with about 22 families: in 1871 it had a population of 200: in 1898 Murray Corner had one store, two lobster factories, one church and a population of 150. Westmorland County, New Brunswick
Westmorland County (2016 population: 149,623) is a county in New Brunswick, a province of Canada. It is in the south-eastern part of the province. It contains the fast-growing commercial centre of Moncton and its northern and eastern suburbs. Also located in the county are the university town of Sackville and the tourist destination of Shediac. Westmorland County is centrally located in the Maritimes and is New Brunswick's most populous county. Fishing and tourism are important industries along the Northumberland Strait shore, and there is some mixed farming in the Petitcodiac River Valley and in the Tantramar Marsh region. Route 955 is a Canadian highway in Westmorland County, New Brunswick. Route description The route's eastern terminus is in Mates Corner at Route 15. It travels east crossing Fox Creek Shemogue Harbour through a mostly treed area near Johnston Point then passes through Chapman Corner. As the route crosses McKays Creek, and Amos Creek, the route turns more north before entering Cadmans Corner. From here, the route turns east again following the Northumberland Strait and passes Murray Beach Provincial Park. From here the route crosses the Little Shemogue River as it enters Murray Corner, then enters Spence Settlement. From here, it crosses Route 16 near Confederation Bridge and Cape Jourimain. From here, it continues past through Bayfield then ending in Cape Tormentine at Route 960. Northumberland Strait
The Northumberland Strait (French: ''détroit de Northumberland'') is a strait in the southern part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in eastern Canada. The strait is formed by Prince Edward Island and the gulf's eastern, southern, and western shores. Boundaries The western boundary of the strait is delineated by a line running between North Cape, Prince Edward Island and Point Escuminac, New Brunswick while the eastern boundary is delineated by a line running between East Point, Prince Edward Island and Inverness, Nova Scotia. A local service district (LSD) is a provincial administrative unit for the provision of local services in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. LSDs relate to areas of the province's former county municipalities that were not incorporated as municipalities around centres of population. They are defined in law by the ''Local Service Districts Regulation'' of the ''Municipalities Act''. In 2017, the ''Municipalities Act'' was replaced by the ''Local Governance Act'', which continued the ''Local Service Districts Regulation''. LSDs are operated by provincial staff. Residents have the opportunity to serve in an advisory capacity to provincial staff. Botsford is a civil parish in Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it divided almost entirely between the town of Cap-Acadie and the incorporated rural community of Strait Shores, small areas along its southwestern border belong to the Southeast rural district. All are members of the Southeast Regional Service Commission. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, the parish was divided between the villages of Cap-Pelé and Port Elgin, the rural community of Beaubassin East, and the local service districts of Bayfield, Cape Tormentine, and the parish of Botsford.
