Murray Chercover
Murray Howard Chercover (18 August 1929 – 3 July 2010) was a Canadian television producer and executive, particularly known as the president of the CTV Television Network from 1967 until 1990. Early life Chercover was born in Montreal, Quebec, but moved with his family to Port Arthur, Ontario in his youth. There in 1944, his first broadcast job was with radio station CFPA. Career From the late 1940s, Chercover worked in New York on various theatre and television projects. When CBC Television began in 1952, he returned to Toronto to produce and direct various programmes there including ''Space Command'', '' General Motors Presents'', ''On Camera'' and Ford's ''Playbill''. Chercover left CBC for CFTO-TV in 1960 which became the flagship station for CTV when the network began in 1961. He became the network's president in 1967. General Motors Theatre
''General Motors Theatre'' (also known as ''CBC Theatre, Encounter, Ford Television Theatre,'' and ''General Motors Presents'') was a Canadian television anthology drama series of television plays, which ran on CBC Television under various titles from September 18, 1952, until January 1, 1961, and in the US on American Broadcasting Company, ABC from October 5 to November 2, 1958. The series mainly consisted of one-hour episodes of romance, adventure, or mystery stories, with some social realist drama plays. Cast and crew Austin Willis, Patrick Macnee, Barry Morse, and William Shatner were among those who appeared in plays produced in the strand. The Banff World Media Festival (formerly known as the Banff World Television Festival) is an international media event held in the Canadian Rockies at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) is a trade association representing the interests of commercial radio and television broadcasters in Canada. It is co-located with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council in Ottawa. It was first established in 1925, with a goal to lobby for Canadian copyright law to contain provisions for the distribution of royalties for music played by radio stations. Following the establishment of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which served as both a broadcaster and regulator, the CAB lobbied for the establishment of an independent regulator of broadcasting in Canada, a goal achieved in 1958 with the formation of the Board of Broadcast Governors. The CAB worked with the BBG to assist in the establishment of private radio and television broadcasters. CFTO-DT (channel 9) is a television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, serving as the flagship station of the CTV Television Network. It is owned and operated by network parent Bell Media alongside Barrie-based CTV 2 outlet CKVR-DT, channel 3 (although the two stations maintain separate operations). ''Space Command'' was a Canadian children's science fiction television adventure series, broadcast on CBC Television in 1953 and 1954, the first time the network aired its own dramatic series. Created by Alfred Harris, the series focused on the activities of young space lieutenant Frank Anderson (Robert Barclay) aboard the space ship XSW1, along with his crewmate Phil Mitchell (James Doohan, best known as Scotty on '' Star Trek'') and XSW1 captain Steve Cassel (Harry Geldard).
