Murder Of Helén Nilsson
Ten-year-old Helén Nilsson was the victim in a sadistic murder case ( sv, Helénmordet) in Hörby, Sweden, in March 1989. The murderer, Ulf Olsson, the so-called Helén man ( sv, Helénmannen), was convicted in April 2005, having been found after a DNA test in 2004. Helén was abducted on the evening of 20 March 1989. She had decided to meet with two friends outside a grocery store, but they never met. She was found murdered six days later in the woods about 20 kilometres outside Hörby. Police discovered that the girl had been alive for a couple of days after the abduction. The murder remained unsolved for the following years and attracted media attention from time to time. The murderer was first brought to the attention of the police at a private dinner. A police officer mentioned that she was involved with the investigation of the murder and this prompted a remark from one of the guests about a former colleague of hers, Ulf Olsson. Ulf Olsson
Ulf Olsson (19 December 1951 – 10 January 2010), also known as Helénmannen ("the Helén man") was a Swedish murderer. He was convicted for the murders of 10-year-old Helén Nilsson and 26-year-old Jannica Ekblad in 1989. Found after a DNA test in 2004 (a test series including 28 other men), Olsson was convicted and sentenced to psychiatric care in 2005. Although he was first brought to the attention of the police in 2002, he had been in contact with two different police officers through anonymous letters and phone calls since only a couple of months after the murders. The investigation is the second-largest in Swedish history, only surpassed by the investigation of the 1986 assassination of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme. Hörby () (old da, Hørby) is a locality and the seat of Hörby Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 15 631 inhabitants in 2019. 6 km (3.7 mi) south-east of the center of Hörby is at least since 1959 the location of a radio and TV transmitter. Sture Bergwall
Sture Ragnar Bergwall (born 26 April 1950), also known as Thomas Quick from 1993–2002, is a Swedish man previously believed to have been a serial killer, having confessed to more than 30 murders while detained in a mental institution for personality disorders. Between 1994 and 2001, Quick was convicted of eight of these murders. However, he withdrew all of his confessions in 2008. As a result, his murder convictions were quashed, the final one in July 2013, and he was released from hospital. The episode raised issues about how murder convictions could have been obtained on such weak evidence, and has been called the largest miscarriage of justice in Swedish history.
