Hörby () (old da, Hørby) is a locality and the seat of Hörby Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 15 631 inhabitants in 2019. 6 km (3.7 mi) south-east of the center of Hörby is at least since 1959 the location of a radio and TV transmitter. Short wave antennas have been dismantled there in 2011. Climate Hörby has a transitional maritime- continental climate with moderate seasonal swings by Nordic inland standards. The weather station was opened in 1995 and thus cold records are limited, but nearby Stehag recorded in February 1979. With a January mean just below freezing, Hörby is as of 2021, the southernmost station in Sweden to average a meteorological winter under Nordic definitions of means. Its inland and somewhat elevated location means higher levels of precipitation than in many surrounding areas, common to southern Sweden. Hörby Municipality (''Hörby kommun'') is a municipality in the central part of Skåne County in southern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Hörby. The present municipality consists of ten original entities merged to each other in 1952, 1969 and 1974. Geography The geography is varied with a few forests, some lakes and streams and farmland and even wildlife. Horby is one of the most meadow-filled municipalities in Sweden. Hörby Transmitter
The Hörby transmitter (''Hörbymasten'' in Swedish) is a transmission mast located in Östra Sallerup, near Hörby in the southmost part of Sweden operated by national broadcaster Sveriges Radio. Due to its location in the middle of the province, it provides FM radio and television to most of Scania. It is 320 metres high and when opened in October 1959 it was one of the tallest structures in Europe. It transmits the four national channels from Sveriges Radio: SR P1, SR P2, SR P3 and SR P4. Two versions of P4 are provided: SR Malmöhus and SR Kristianstad. The only remaining short wave radio transmissions also originate from outside Hörby, but are broadcast from the Hörby short wave transmitter. Österlen
Österlen () ( da, Østerlen) is a region in the southeast of the Swedish province of Scania (Skåne). Historically, the region was shared between the counties of Kristianstad and Malmöhus for a small part in the southwest, until Skåne County was created in 1997. Österlen includes the municipalities of Simrishamn and Tomelilla and a rural part of Ystad. The towns of Simrishamn and Tomelilla are of very similar sizes, but the Simrishamn municipal population is somewhat larger.
