Munich 2018 (german: München 2018; bar, Minga 2018) was an unsuccessful bid by Munich, Germany for the 2018 edition of the Winter Olympic Games. Overview Munich hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics, and if selected would have been the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games and as well would have been the first time since the 1936 Summer Olympics in a single German nation following reunification, but that honor went to Beijing four years later. Berlin and Hamburg were considering a summer games bid for 2024 or 2028, but the German Olympic Committee put priority on the Munich bid. After Salzburg's failure to capture the 2014 bid, Germany felt it has a better chance and would have preferred the Olympics sooner rather than later. Oberammergau is a municipality in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in Bavaria, Germany. The small town on the Ammer River is known for its woodcarvers and woodcarvings, for its NATO School, and around the world for its 380-year tradition of mounting Passion Plays. Beijing 2022 was a successful bid by Beijing, China and the Chinese Olympic Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The IOC selected the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 31, 2015, which Beijing won. PyeongChang 2018 was the successful bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, to be held in Pyeongchang.
