Muhos Railway Station
Muhos railway station is a railway station in the municipality of Muhos in the Northern Ostrobothnia region in Finland on the Oulu–Kontiomäki railway line. It is the second station east from Oulu railway station and the first passenger service station east from Oulu. The station was opened in 1927, and it was a staffed station until in 1998 when centralized traffic control was installed. Passenger and freight service Passenger trains are operated by the national railway operator VR Group. There are eight daily passenger trains stopping at Muhos, four westbound and four eastbound. Muhos
Muhos is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Oulu half an hour's drive (35 km) on route 22 from the city of Oulu, the capital of Northern Finland, and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The river Oulujoki flows through the town and its countryside with the wide open plains of Pohjanmaa on the south side of the river and the forested hills of Kainuu on the northern side. Oulu–Kontiomäki Railway
Oulu–Kontiomäki railway is a railway line in Finland. The line is owned and maintained by the Finnish Rail Administration. It connects the city of Oulu to station at Kontiomäki, which is a junction of five railway lines in Paltamo municipality, approximately north from the city of Kajaani. The line is single-tracked and electrified with a total length of . The traffic is controlled via centralized traffic control by the operator located in Oulu rail traffic control center at Oulu railway station. Starting from Oulu, the line extends eastward, generally following the southern bank of Oulu River until it reaches Vaala station, where the line crosses over the river. Oulu Railway Station
The Oulu Railway Station is located in the centre of Oulu, Finland, in the city district of Vaara. All trains are operated by VR. Nearby is the Oulu bus station for long-distance buses. The railway station was built in 1886 when the Ostrobothnia railway line reached Oulu. The railway from the south to Oulu was electrified in 1983, using overhead electric wires at 25 kV. The electrification northwards from Oulu to Rovaniemi was not completed until 2004. In 2006 the railway from Oulu to Iisalmi was also electrified. Centralized traffic control (CTC) is a form of railway signalling that originated in North America. CTC consolidates train routing decisions that were previously carried out by local signal operators or the train crews themselves. The system consists of a centralized train dispatcher's office that controls railroad interlockings and traffic flows in portions of the rail system designated as CTC territory. Passing Loop
A passing loop (UK usage) or passing siding (North America) (also called a crossing loop, crossing place, refuge loop or, colloquially, a hole) is a place on a single line railway or tramway, often located at or near a station, where trains or trams travelling in opposite directions can pass each other. Trains/trams going in the same direction can also overtake, provided that the signalling arrangement allows it. A passing loop is double-ended and connected to the main track at both ends, though a dead end siding known as a refuge siding, which is much less convenient, can be used.
