Mpopoma High School
Mpopoma High School, which is also known as ''The High School'', is a mixed government day school that is located in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The school was established in 1959 and is known as one of the best schools in the City of Bulawayo. The school has an annual enrollment of 1500+ students (all of whom are day scholars) and uses the double-shift system to deliver lessons. The School motto is ''Vela Mfundo'' meaning ''Show Up Education (We Embrace You).'' In addition to having notable alumni in many parts of the world, Mpopoma has excelled in both Academics and Sports. Academics Mpopoma High School follows a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council, ZIMSEC curriculum and caters for both GCE Ordinary Level, Ordinary Level ("O" Level) and GCE Advanced Level, advanced ("A") level students. The school has, on several occasions, produced very good Advanced Level results. In 2016, the school recorded a 98.7% A level pass-rate (5% above the national average) based on ZIMSEC exams. Bulawayo
Bulawayo (, ; Ndebele: ''Bulawayo'') is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland region. The city's population is disputed; the 2022 census listed it at 665,940, while the Bulawayo City Council claimed it to be about 1.2 million. Bulawayo covers an area of about in the western part of the country, along the Matsheumhlope River. Along with the capital Harare, Bulawayo is one of two cities in Zimbabwe that is also a province. Bulawayo was founded by a group led by Gundwane Ndiweni around 1840 as the kraal of Mzilikazi, the Ndebele king and was known as Gibixhegu. Tymon Mabaleka
Tymon Mabaleka (1950 – 27 June 2014) was a Zimbabwean footballer and music producer. He was nicknamed "The Whitehorse". His career lasted for nearly twenty years in sports and another fifteen years in the music industry. Mabaleka was born in Nswazi in Umzingwane District. He attended Longfield Primary School in Nswazi for his early education. He then relocated to Bulawayo and studied at Msitheli High School for his secondary education. Henry Tayali
Henry Nkole Tayali (22 November 1943 – 22 July 1987) was a multi-lingual Zambian painter, sculptor, printmaker, raconteur and lecturer. He has been described as Zambia's most famous painter. Biography Early life Tayali was born on 22 November 1943 to Edward Nkole Tayali (1914–1995) and Esnati Mumba Tayali (née Chola, 1923–1963) in Serenje in the British Colony of Northern Rhodesia (later to become Zambia), a town near the site of the Nsalu 12,000-year-old rock and cave paintings. His father, the first born of five children, had won a scholarship to study at a South African University, but never took it up because his own mother died suddenly, and he chose to stay and look after his younger siblings. Jonah Sithole
Jonah Sithole (1952–1997) was a Zimbabwean guitarist, vocalist and composer, known particularly for the mbira-inspired style known as mbira-guitar or chimurenga music. Early life Jonah Sithole was born in the province of Masvingo and grew up in the mining town of Zvishavane (formerly Shabani), where his older brother worked as a miner as well as a musician for the mining camp band. Jonah first picked up the guitar as a twelve-year-old. When his brother was at work, he would play his guitar, imitating the sounds that his brother practiced around the house. Jonah eventually moved to Bulawayo, where he attended Mpopoma High School until he was expelled in 1969, when he was a form 2 student. Sandra Ndebele
Sandra Ndebele is a Zimbabwean musician, dancer and actress. Career Ndebele started participating in the performing arts while at school and later joined the group IYASA with which she toured the world. She later released 10 track her solo album in 2003. She went on to perform at various events with bigger artists like Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso. 2003 was also the year she won 3 Awards at the Zimbabwe Music Awards. Her high energy dance routines made her popular with a lot of people although some raised concerns with her saying her dances were sexually provocative and suggestive. Her singles, Malaika and Mama were fan favorites. She has gone on to release many other songs and albums. Sinikiwe Mpofu
Sinikiwe Gava Mpofu (21 February 1985 – 7 January 2023) was a Zimbabwean cricket player and coach. She represented the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team at two editions of the Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier. She later coached Mountaineers and Southerns in Zimbabwean domestic cricket. Fortune Chasi (born 5 February 1965) is a Zimbabwean politician, member of parliament, and formerly served as the country's Minister of Energy and Power Development. IYASA
The Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts, a combination of Ndebele and English phrase which means Freedom of the Youth, officially known as IYASA, is a Zimbabwean dance group which is based in Bulawayo, the second capital city of Zimbabwe. IYASA was established in 2001 by Nkululeko Innocent Dube. It started as a drama creative group at Mpopoma High School in Bulwayo. It then advanced into  a professional platform for young people who have interest in Arts and Culture in 2001.
