Moxie is a regional soda in the United States, the eponym of the word "moxie". Moxie
Moxie is a brand of carbonated beverage that is among the first mass-produced soft drinks in the United States. It was created around 1876 by Augustin Thompson as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food" and was produced in Lowell, Massachusetts. The sweet soda is similar to root beer, with a bitter aftertaste. It is flavored with gentian root extract, an extremely bitter substance commonly used in herbal medicine. Moxie was designated the official soft drink of Maine on May 10, 2005. It continues to be regionally popular today, particularly in New England states. It was previously produced by the Moxie Beverage Company of Bedford, New Hampshire until Moxie was purchased by The Coca-Cola Company in 2018. The name has become the word "moxie" in American English, a noun meaning energy, determination, and spunk. Tiffany Shlain (born April 8, 1970) is an American filmmaker and author. Described by the public radio program '' On Being'' as "an internet pioneer", Shlain is the co-founder of the Webby Awards and the founder of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Early life and education Shlain was raised in Mill Valley, California, the daughter of Leonard Shlain, a surgeon, author, and inventor, and Carol Lewis Jaffe, a psychologist. In high school, Shlain co-wrote a proposal called ''Uniting Nations in Telecommunications & Software (UNITAS),'' which envisioned students all over the world communicating over personal computers and via modems before the advent of the web. From this proposal, she was invited to be a student ambassador through the People to People program, and traveled to the Soviet Union in 1988. Northeast Somerset is an unorganized territory in Somerset County, Maine, United States. The population was 367 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 1,349.5 km2 (521.0 mi2), of which 1,256.9 km2 (485.3 mi2) is land and 92.6 km2 (35.8 mi2) (6.86%) is water. Moxie Girlz were a line of fashion dolls introduced by MGA Entertainment in 2009. These dolls are targeted at girls ages 6+. The four original 10.6-inch dolls are named Lexa, Bria, Avery, and Sophina, with others named Sasha, Kellan, Monet, Merin, Ida, and Amberly. The Moxie dolls are reminiscent of Bratz Bratz is an American fashion doll and media franchise created by former Mattel employee Carter Bryant for MGA Entertainment which debuted in 2001. The four original 10-inch (25 cm) dolls were released on May 21, 2001 — Yasmin, Cloe, Jade ..., having the distinct pop on/off feet and long hair, but with features consisting of large eyes and proportioned noses and mouths fitting to their head-size. Moxie Girlz were meant to replace Bratz, given that Mattel sued MGA over the original design. However, Bratz returned to the market in August 2010. No new products have been released since 2014.

The Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) is a technology demonstration on the NASA Mars 2020 rover ''Perseverance'' investigating the production of oxygen on Mars. On April 20, 2021, MOXIE produced oxygen from carbon dioxide in the Martian atmosphere by using solid oxide electrolysis. This was the first experimental extraction of a natural resource from another planet for human use. The technology may be scaled up for use in a human mission to the planet to provide breathable oxygen, oxidizer, and propellant; water may also be produced by combining the produced oxygen with hydrogen. The experiment was a collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Haystack Observatory, the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and other institutions. The Santa Monica Film Festival & Moxie Awards is an annual film series and awards show held in Santa Monica, California, United States. History The Santa Monica Film Festival & Moxie Awards was created by Albert Birdie deQuay, also known as Birdie deQuay, in 1997.
