Mountain View, North Carolina
Mountain View is a census-designated place (CDP) in Catawba County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hickory–Lenoir– Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Mountain View is located in western Catawba County at (35.681990, -81.367999). It is bordered to the north by the town of Long View and to the northeast by the town of Brookford. The city of Hickory, located north of Brookford, has been extending its borders through annexation into the Mountain View area and now nearly splits the CDP into north and south halves. North Carolina Highway 127 passes through the community, leading north to the center of Hickory and south to NC Highway 10. U.S. Route 321, a four-lane expressway, crosses the eastern corner of the Mountain View CDP, where its Exit 42 provides access to NC 127. A census-designated place (CDP) is a concentration of population defined by the United States Census Bureau for statistical purposes only. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places, such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. Morganton, North Carolina
Morganton is a city in and the county seat of Burke County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 16,918 at the 2010 census. Morganton is approximately northwest of Charlotte. Morganton is one of the principal cities in the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. A site five miles north of Morganton has been identified as the Mississippian culture chiefdom of Joara, occupied from AD 1400 to AD 1600. North Carolina Highway 10 (NC 10) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Originally established as the state's central highway, from Murphy to Beaufort, it now serves to connect the city of Newton with the nearby communities and towns in the foothills region. North Carolina Highway 127 (NC 127) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It serves similar to a farm-to-market highway, connecting rural Catawba and Alexander counties to Hickory. Route description NC 127 is a rural two-lane highway, except in Hickory. It begins at an intersection with NC 10 in the unincorporated Catawba County community of Propst Crossroads and travels north over Jacobs Fork into the census designated place (CDP) of Mountain View.
