Mount Viets
Mount Viets () is a sharp pyramidal mountain over 3,600 m, standing north of Mount Giovinetto in the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. It surmounts Delyo Glacier to the east and Burdenis Glacier to the northeast. The mountain was discovered by the Marie Byrd Land Traverse party of 1957–58 under Charles R. Bentley. It was named for Ronald L. Viets, a geophysicist at Little America V Station in 1957. Mountain
A mountain is an elevated portion of the Earth's crust, generally with steep sides that show significant exposed bedrock. Mount Giovinetto
Mount Giovinetto () is the summit of a buttress-type mountain (4,090 m) located north of Mount Ostenso and south of Mount Viets in the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, Antarctica. It surmounts Rumyana Glacier to the east and Delyo Glacier to the northeast. The mountain was discovered by the Charles R. Sentinel Range
The Sentinel Range is a major mountain range situated northward of Minnesota Glacier and forming the northern half of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica. The range trends NNW-SSE for about and is 24 to 48 km (15 to 30 mi) wide. Ellsworth Mountains
The Ellsworth Mountains are the highest mountain ranges in Antarctica, forming a long and wide chain of mountains in a north to south configuration on the western margin of the Ronne Ice Shelf in Marie Byrd Land. They are bisected by Minnesota Glacier to form the Sentinel Range to the north and the Heritage Range to the south. Delyo Glacier
Delyo Glacier ( bg, Дельов ледник, Delyov lednik, ) is the 8 km long and 2.7 km wide glacier on the east side of the main crest of north-central Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated northwest of Rumyana Glacier and south of Burdenis Glacier. The glacier drains the north slopes of Mount Giovinetto and the east slopes of Mount Viets, flows northeastwards and together with Burdenis Glacier and Gerila Glacier joins upper Ellen Glacier north of Bruguière Peak. Burdenis Glacier
Burdenis Glacier ( bg, ледник Бурденис, lednik Burdenis, ) is the 6 km long and 1.7 km wide glacier on the east side of the main crest of north-central Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated north of Delyo Glacier and south of Gerila Glacier. The glacier drains the north slopes of Mount Viets and the southeast slopes of the southern summit of Long Gables Peak, flows northeastwards and together with Delyo Glacier and Gerila Glacier joins upper Ellen Glacier north of Bruguière Peak. Little America V Station
Little America was a series of Antarctic exploration bases from 1929 to 1958, located on the Ross Ice Shelf, south of the Bay of Whales. The coordinates are approximate. Little America I The first base in the series was established in January 1929 by Richard Byrd, and was abandoned in 1930. This was where the film ''With Byrd at the South Pole'' (1930), about Byrd's trip to the South Pole, was filmed. Little America II Little America II was established in 1934, some above the site of the original base, with some of the original base accessed via tunnel. This base was briefly set adrift in 1934, but the iceberg fused to the main glacier. Catherine Destivelle
Catherine Destivelle (born 24 July 1960) is a French rock climber and mountaineer who is considered one of the greatest and most important female climbers in the history of the sport. She came to prominence in the mid-1980s for sport climbing by winning the first major female climbing competitions, and by being the first-ever female to redpoint a sport climbing route with ''Fleur de Rocaille'' in 1985, and an route with ''Choucas'' in 1988. During this period, she was considered the strongest female sport climber in the world along with the US climber Lynn Hill, however, in 1990 she retired to focus on alpine climbing.
