Mount Shëndelli
Mount Shëndelli (Literal translation, lit. "Mount Holy-Sun") is a mountain in southern Albania in the geographical region of Southern Albanian Highlands. It is part of the mountain chain Shëndelli-Mount Lunxhëri, Lunxhëri-Mount Bureto, Bureto chain, which goes parallel to the Mount Trebeshinë, Trebeshinë-Mount Dhembel, Dhembel-Mount Nemërçkë, Nemërçkë chain. Its highest elevation is 1,802 m.Soviet military maK-34-125-В(1:50,000) Its orientation is north to south. The valley of the river Vjosë, with the city Tepelenë, lies to its south and west. Folklore The mountain is considered by Albanians as a sacred place. In Albanian folk beliefs, local folk beliefs it is associated with the cult of the mountain peaks and the cult of the sun. Southern Albanian Highlands
The Southern Mountain Range ( sq, Krahina Malore Jugore) is a physiogeographical region in southern Albania. It is defined by high mountains and few valleys and plains between them. It is also one of the four geographical areas of Albania, the others being the Northern Mountain Range (the Albanian part of the Prokletije), the Western Lowlands ( sq, Ultësira Bregdetare), and the Central Mountain Range ( sq, Krahina Malore Qendrore). Vjosë
The Vjosa (; indefinite form: ) or Aoös ( el, Αώος) is a river in northwestern Greece and southwestern Albania. Its total length is about , of which the first are in Greece, and the remaining in Albania. Its drainage basin is and its average discharge is . The main tributaries are Voidomatis, Sarantaporos, Drino and Shushicë. The river arises in the Pindus mountains of Epirus, Greece, and generally flows northwest. It enters Albania near Çarshovë, and empties into the Adriatic Sea just north of Vlorë. Tepelenë
Tepelenë ( sq-definite, Tepelena) is a city and a municipality in Gjirokastër County, in the south of Albania. The town is located on the left bank of the Vjosa River, about three kilometres downstream from its union with the Drino. Until the abolition of Districts of Albania, Districts in 2000, Tepelenë was the seat of the Tepelenë District. Its location is strategically important and there is a ruined citadel occupying a point 300 metres above the river. Ali Pasha of Tepelenë was born at the nearby village of Beçisht.
