Mount Pleasant MRT Station
Mount Pleasant MRT station is a non-operational underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line in Novena, Singapore. Located within the former grounds of Old Police Academy, the station is planned to serve future housing developments in the area. First announced in August 2012 as part of the Thomson line (TSL), the station was constructed as part of TEL Phase 3 (TEL3) with the merger of the TSL and the Eastern Region line (ERL). Initially slated to open along with the rest of the TEL3 stations, it was announced in November 2021 that the station would only open when its surrounding areas are further developed, even though it has been structurally completed. Since operations for TEL3 began on 13 November 2022, trains would skip this station and continue its journey towards Stevens or Caldecott. Mount Pleasant Road, Singapore
The Heritage Roads scheme was implemented in 2001 by the Singapore government to identify and protect roads whereby there are lush road-side trees, often so dense that they create "green walls" and even "green tunnels". Concerns that rapid urban development will result in the removal of these trees especially due to the widening or realignment of these roads, the authorities identified 5 roads from a list of 55 suggested by the National Parks Board. The remaining roads were placed on a watchlist to be closely monitored, and may be added to the scheme later. 1 Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. SMRT Trains Limited is a rail operator in Singapore and a wholly owned subsidiary of SMRT Corporation. After the privatisation of the MRT operations in 1995, it was originally named Singapore MRT Limited. On 31 December 2001, it was renamed to SMRT Trains Limited, so as not to confuse with another MRT line - North East MRT Line that is under Singapore Bus Services and the bus operations merged from Trans-Island Bus Services. Novena is a planning area located within the Central Region of Singapore. Novena is bounded by Toa Payoh to the north, Bukit Timah to the west, Tanglin to the south and Kallang to the east. Stevens MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the Downtown (DTL) and Thomson–East Coast (TEL) lines. Situated at the junction of Stevens Road and Bukit Timah Road, it serves the nearby Singapore Chinese Girls' School and St. Joseph's Institution schools, as well as the Raffles Town Club and the surrounding private estates. The station was first announced in July 2008 as part of DTL Stage 2 (DTL2) and opened on 27 December 2015. Two new exits at Dunearn Road and Whitley Road opened on 23 November 2019. Caldecott MRT Station
Caldecott MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the Circle line (CCL) and Thomson–East Coast line (TEL), located in Toa Payoh planning area, Singapore. It is situated underneath Toa Payoh Link near the junction of Toa Payoh Rise, located near the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH), the Caldecott Broadcast Centre and Mount Alvernia Hospital. The station is operated by SMRT Trains. Initially planned to be a shell station tentatively named Thomson, in 2008, the station was announced to be opened along with the Stages 4 and 5 of the CCL stations. The CCL station opened in 2011.
