Mouat Street is a street in Fremantle, Western Australia. Historically, the name was often spelled as Mouatt Street. It is a one-way street, running from Phillimore Street in the north to Marine Terrace in the south. It runs parallel to and in between Cliff Street to the west and Henry Street to the east. Phillimore Street is a street in Fremantle, Western Australia; it runs between Queen Street, outside the Fremantle railway station and Cliff Street. It is the location of a precinct of archaeological interest as well as being located in the Fremantle West End Heritage area. P&O Hotel (Fremantle)
The P&O Hotel is a heritage listed building located at 25 High Street, Fremantle, High Street on the corner of Mouat Street in Fremantle, Western Australia. It was one of many commercial buildings constructed in Fremantle during the Western Australian gold rushes, gold boom period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Description The corner building is a two-storey Federation style, Federation Filigree style structure. The highly decorative parapet has five large pediments featuring stilted arches with columns and decorative stucco along with balustrade and columns. The corner of the building parapet has the remains of a dome inscribed with the name The P&O Hotel in decorative stucco. The top of the dome has been removed. Both storeys feature large multi-paned windows with stucco architraves. The University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA) is a national Roman Catholic private university with campuses in and in Western Australia and Sydney in New South Wales. The Heritage Council of Western Australia is the Government of Western Australia agency created to identify, conserve and promote places of cultural heritage significance in the state. Howard Smith Building
The former Howard Smith Building is a heritage listed building located at 1-3 Mouat Street on the corner with Phillimore Street in the Fremantle West End Heritage area. It was one of many commercial buildings constructed in Fremantle during the gold boom period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Construction of the building commenced in 1900. The building is three storeys tall and is made from brick and stone. It has zero setback from the footpath, the ground floor is stone and the upper floors are painted tuck point brick with engaged pilasters with an ashlar effect to the first floor. There is a decorative parapet with two tall and highly decorative pediments. Howard Smith Limited operated primarily as a shipping company with passenger services extended to Fremantle in 1893. Tarantella Night Club
The former Tarantella Night Club building, also known as the German Consulate and Norddeutscher-Lloyd Building is a heritage building located at Mouat Street in the Fremantle West End Heritage area. The building dates from the gold rush boom period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and is of historic significance. Description The building is an unusual use of stone and Federation Romanesque architecture, especially in Fremantle where the stucco ornamentation of the Free Classical style dominates. The building occupies all of the lot area and stands alone, separated from adjacent buildings by laneways. It has a narrow frontage and steep pitched gable, the height of which is further accentuated by a castellated tower crowned with a tiled, pyramidal roof and spire. Strelitz Buildings
The Strelitz Buildings, located at 30 Mouat Street, Fremantle, were built in 1897 for Paul and Richard Strelitz. In October 1994, the buildings were permanently listed on the Western Australian State Heritage Register. Strelitz brothers In 1896 Fremantle rate books record that vacant lot 49, 30 Mouat St, was brought by Drummond and Strelitz. On 5 January 1897 plans were passed for the building of a warehouse and offices on the land. Rate books of 1897 show that the site was owned by the Strelitz brothers, and the books record their occupation as merchants and also indicate that the building had been completed. During World War I (1914–18) both brothers were interned as enemy aliens. Adelaide Steamship House
The Adelaide Steamship House is located at 10-12 Mouat Street, Fremantle. Built in 1900, the building was designed by Fremantle-based architectural firm Charles Oldham and Herbert Eales and was constructed by C. Coghill. The building takes its name from the original owners of the building, the Adelaide Steamship Company, who provided sea passenger and freight services around Australia. Henry Street, Fremantle
Henry Street is a street in Fremantle, Western Australia. It was named after John Henry, second lieutenant of . It was developed very early in the history of the Swan River Colony with licensed premises being located as early as 1833. Henry Street has seen significant funeral processions pass along it on their way to the Fremantle Cemetery.
