''Mother of the Bride'' ( ar, أم العروسة, translit. Omm el aroussa) is a 1963 Egyptian comedy film directed by Atef Salem. Atef Salem ( arz, عاطف سالم; 23 July 1927 – 30 July 2002) was an Egyptian film director. He directed 32 films between 1954 and 2001. Hassan Youssef (actor)
Hassan Youssef ( ar, حسن يوسف; born 14 April 1939) is an Egyptian actor and director. He performed in many films since 1960s and indicated that he made fifteen films with the famous Egyptian actress Soad Hosny all of which were successful at the box office (the interview is available on YouTube). He also acted in several dramatic series in early 1980s including ''Dalia the Egyptian'' with the famous Egyptian actor Salah Zulfikar, and featuring actress Madiha Salem as Dalia. Egypt has submitted films for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1958, when Youssef Chahine's ''Cairo Station'' became both the first African and the first Arab film to contend for the award. The Foreign Film award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The award was created for the 1956 Academy Awards, succeeding the non-competitive Honorary Academy Awards which were presented between 1947 and 1955 to the best foreign language films released in the United States. This is a list of submissions to the 37th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English language, English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 37th Academy Awards, eighteen films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Czechoslovakia, Israel and Turkey submitted films to the competition for the first time. The titles highlighted were the five nominated films, which came from France, Israel, Italy, Japan and Sweden. Madiha Salem ( ar, مديحة سالم; 2 October 1944 – 19 November 2015) was an Egyptian actress who appeared in 29 films, and 13 radio and TV serials. She is known for playing the "dreamy teenager" in Egyptian classics from the 1960s. Early life Salem was born in the Zamalek neighborhood of Cairo. In high school she studied at the Zamalek School for Girls. Her father died shortly after she finished high school, forcing her to abandon further studies and to look for work. Career Known as the "teenager of the cinema" and the "innocent cat of the screen," she played many supporting roles during the golden era of Egyptian cinema of the 60s and 70s, mainly in the role of the dreamy teenager.
