Moscow Monorail Transit System
The Moscow Monorail (russian: Московский монорельс) is a monorail line located in the North-Eastern Administrative Okrug of Moscow, Russia. It runs from the Timiryazevskaya via Fonvisinskaya and VDNHa metro stations to Sergeya Eisensteina street. The monorail line currently has six stations. Planning of the monorail in Moscow started in 1998. This was a unique project for Russian companies, which did not have prior experience in building monorails. 6,335,510,000 rubles (about US$240 million) were spent by the city of Moscow on the monorail construction. On 20 November 2004, the monorail opened in "excursion mode." On 10 January 2008, the monorail's operation mode was changed to "transportation mode" with more frequent train service. Monorail
A monorail (from "mono", meaning "one", and "rail") is a railway in which the track consists of a single rail or a beam. Colloquially, the term "monorail" is often used to describe any form of elevated rail or people mover. More accurately, the term refers to the style of track.The term "track" is used here for simplicity. Technically the monorail sits on or is suspended from a guideway containing a singular structure. There is an additional generally accepted rule that the support for the car be narrower than the car. Dmitry Vladimirovich Gayev (russian: Дми́трий Влади́мирович Га́ев; 21 October 1951 – 27 October 2012) was a Russian civil servant and head chief of the Moscow Metro. He is known as having served the longest administrative mandate in the history of the Moscow Metro (from late 1995 until early 2011) under the command of Mayor Yuri Luzhkov. He was removed from this position after Luzhkov's removal and soon enough became the target of numerous financial and criminal lawsuits by the state relating to his work. Strogino (), formerly known as Ostrogino (), is a district in North-Western Administrative Okrug of Moscow, Russia, located on the right bank of the Moskva River about 12 km west-northwest of central Moscow.
