Morten Gunnar Larsen
Morten Gunnar Larsen (born 1 October 1955) is a Norwegian jazz pianist and composer, well known for several stride piano recordings and collaborations. Career Larsen studied classical piano at Norges Musikkhøgskole (1978). In 1975 he had his debut records, ''Classic Rags and Stomps'', for which he won Spellemannprisen in 1976. He next founded Ophelia Ragtime Orchestra in 1977 and performed with stride pianist Eubie Blake, for whom Larsen composed ''Memories of Eubie''. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. The Obie Awards or Off-Broadway Theater Awards are annual awards originally given by ''The Village Voice'' newspaper to theatre artists and groups in New York City. In September 2014, the awards were jointly presented and administered with the American Theatre Wing. As the Tony Awards cover Broadway productions, the Obie Awards cover off-Broadway and off-off-Broadway productions. Background The Obie Awards were initiated by Edwin (Ed) Fancher, publisher of ''The Village Voice,'' who handled the financing and business side of the project. Egil Johansen (musician)
Egil "Bop" Johansen (11 January 1934 – 4 December 1998) was a Norwegian-Swedish jazz drummer, teacher, composer, and arranger. Life Johansen was born in Oslo. He was considered already in his teens as one of the best drummers and was a professional musician from the age of 16. He received the nickname "Bop" because he was especially good at playing bebop. He was always open to the new styles of jazz that he encountered. His professional career started in Einar Stenberg’s orchestra in the summer of 1950 with ''Svalerødkilens badhotell'' and continued in the autumn with ''Svaes Danseskole'', after which he joined Egil Monn-Iversen’s orchestra and Kjell Johansen’s experimental band for 1951-1953. He played in Rowland Greenberg’s orchestra in 1952. He moved to Sweden in 1954 at the invitation of Simon Brehm. Buddyprisen
Buddyprisen (established 1956 in Oslo, Norway) is an award, given annually by the Norwegian Jazz Forum to a Norwegian jazz musician that has "been an excellent performer and significantly involved in Norwegian jazz by other means". The award was accompanied by a statue portraiting the New Orleans trumpeter Buddy Bolden, made by visual artist Lise Frogg. From 1987, recipients have received a travel grant; in 2011, the grant amounted to NKR 50,000. The awards ceremony takes place at the club "Bare Jazz" in Oslo. Stein Erik Tafjord
Stein Erik Tafjord (born 2 November 1953 in Langevåg, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (tuba), and brother of the French horn player Runar Tafjord. He is most well known for being part of The Brazz Brothers. He was also one of the founders Ytre Suløens Jass Ensemble in 1973, where he played for 17 years. He has four children, and between them are the hornplayer Hild Sofie Tafjord. Career Tafjord is a graduate of Norges Musikkhøgskole i Oslo. After many years as participant of the Kringkastingsorkesteret, he started as a freelance jazz and studio musician. Tafjord has developed a very unconventional style of playing as improviser, which has had an influence on composers and others musicians, to be more aware of the tuba as instrument. He has toured with several international orchestras and groups, such as the Scandinavian Tuba Jazz Inc. and Carla Bley Scandinavian Jazz Ensemble. Levanger is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the district of Innherred. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Levanger. Norbert Susemihl
Norbert Susemihl (born August 26, 1956) is a German trumpeter, drummer, singer, and bandleader. He is a promoter of New Orleans Jazz and New Orleans Music. Early years Susemihl grew up in Hamburg, Germany. He started playing music at the age of 14 on guitar with his first band "The Shepherds", which he co-founded with Thomas l'Etienne. This was a vocal group which sang Spirituals and Gospel-Songs, inspired by the "Golden Gate Quartet". After a year, in 1971, Susemihl started to play trumpet, and the band changed its name to "Papa Tom's Lamentation Jazzband" playing and studying Traditional Jazz from then on.
