Morphett Street Brewery
The Morphett Street Brewery was a brewer of beer in Adelaide, South Australia. History John Reid ( – c. 24 November 1863) and Isaiah Reid (c. 1832 – 9 April 1877) had a licensed grocery shop on a half acre of land on Morphett Street near North Terrace in the Adelaide city centre from 1857, then began brewing there from 1859. After the death of his brother, Isaiah Reid took on John Burn Harrison as a partner, then proved insolvent 1866. In 1868, which may have been Reid's last year of operation, their production was of beer. This made the Morphett Street Brewery the smallest in the city; one third that of Simms & Chapman's West End Brewery and half that of Syme & Sison's Pirie Street Brewery. Their pale ale was bottled partly by Noltenius and partly by Aldridge. The factory was then taken over by Fred Fuller & Co. who continued operating on the premises until perhaps as late as 1873. Walkerville Brewery was a brewer of beer in Adelaide, South Australia, originally founded in the 1840s. The company became a co-operative, and grew by admitting hotel owners as shareholders, and absorbed smaller breweries. After several amalgamations it moved its operations to Southwark (now part of Thebarton) and by 1920 it was South Australia's largest brewing company. It was bought out by the South Australian Brewing Company in 1939 and its facilities became known as the company's Southwark brewery. The brewery produced Nathan beer (Nathan Bitter), named after a new type of beer making equipment introduced in 1927 (later renamed Southwark Bitter by the SA Brewing Co.). The Hindmarsh Brewery was a brewery founded 1844 in Hindmarsh, in the then colony of South Australia, by E. J. F. "Fred" Crawford. Crawford lost possession of the business in 1859, then re-established it on a different site before becoming bankrupt. It was then taken over by Henry Haussen and George Catchlove, and was successfully operated by them and their successors until 1927. Kent Town Brewery
Kent Town Brewery was a brewery in Kent Town, a suburb adjacent to the city of Adelaide on its eastern side, in South Australia. Its original name was Logue's Brewery, after its first proprietor. History The brewery was founded on King William Street, Kent Town near First Creek in 1856 by Capt. Henry Spencer Crawford ( – 14 November 1861), and Edward Logue. Their partnership was dissolved in July 1857. Crawford appears to have been in charge of setting up the process. The brewery was from the start known as "Logue's Brewery", he being both proprietor and brewer. Logue had earlier been involved in the Halifax Street Brewery as a financial partner in W. H. Clark & Co. In March 1862 the brewery and the adjacent house, occupied by Logue and his family, was destroyed by fire.
