The morna (pronunciation in both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole: ) is a music and dance genre from Cape Verde. Lyrics are usually in Cape Verdean Creole, and instrumentation often includes cavaquinho, clarinet, accordion, violin, piano and guitar. Morna is widely considered the national music of Cape Verde, as is the fado for Portugal, the tango for Argentina, the merengue for Dominican Republic, the rumba for Cuba, and so on. The best internationally known morna singer was Cesária Évora. Morna and other genres of Cape Verdean music are also played in Cape Verdean migrant communities abroad, especially in New England in the US, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, West Africa and parts of Latin America. Morna (band)
Morna is a Slovak progressive death metal band founded in 2010 by Michal Vlkovic, Jakub Filip and Robert Ruman. In summer of 2011, Tomas Cvecka joined Morna as a full-time bass guitarist. Morna is distinctive for their ability to combine many stylistic elements and influences such as melodiousness, progressivity, use of acoustic guitar parts and heavy riffs, death growls and clean vocals and classical hard rock, progressive rock and blues influences. In May 2013 the band released their debut studio album, ''A Tale of Woe''. In February 2014, it was nominated in the category of Hard & Heavy for Record of the year of 2013 by Radio Head Awards. In May 2015 the band announced they were gearing up to record their second full-length studio album. Recording started in July 2015 and continued to the end of November at the same year. Morna Hooker
Morna Dorothy Hooker (born 19 May 1931) is a British theologian and New Testament scholar. Early life and education Morna Hooker was born in Beddington on 19 May 1931. She went to Bristol University where she graduated with first class honours in theology, and then earned her MA. She worked for a PhD degree at the University of Manchester, then at the University of Durham. Career and research She became a Research Fellow in Arts at Durham. In 1961 she was elected into a temporary, then permanent lectureship at King's College London. In 1970, she left for a lectureship in Theology at University of Oxford, with a fellowship at Linacre College, Oxford. She was Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity within the University of Cambridge from 1976 to 1998, becoming the first woman to hold the Cambridge degree of D.D., and as of 1998 is Professor Emerita.
