Morganton is a city in Fannin County, Georgia, Fannin County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. The population was 303 at the 2010 census. History Prior to European colonization, the area that is now Morganton was inhabited by the Cherokee people and other Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Morganton in 1856. The town's name is a transfer from Morganton, North Carolina. Morganton served as the county seat, seat of Fannin County from 1854 until 1895, when the seat was transferred to Blue Ridge. Geography Morganton is located in eastern Fannin County at (34.876616, -84.245432), on the northeast side of Lake Blue Ridge, Blue Ridge Reservoir. Georgia State Route 60 passes through the city, leading northwest to U.S. Route 76 and southeast to Suches, Georgia, Suches. Lake Blue Ridge
Blue Ridge Lake is a reservoir in Fannin County, in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia.
