Morgan Academy FP RFC
Morgan Academy RFC was an amateur rugby union team based in Dundee, Scotland. They competed in the league until 2021 when Dundee HSFP and Morgan Academy RFC merged to create Dundee Rugby Club. History It was originally for the former pupils of Morgan Academy, a secondary school in Dundee. It was formed in 1933. It was also known as Morgan Rugby Club or Morgan Dundee, having dropped the restriction on solely former academy pupils playing for the club. Merger The club merged with Dundee HSFP to form a new club Dundee Rugby in 2021. One of the main reasons for the merger was to consolidate rugby union club in Dundee and then attempt to get the new club into the professional Super 6 league. Dundee HSFP is a former rugby union team that played their home games at the Mayfield Playing Fields, Dundee, Scotland. The club disbanded in 2021. The team was founded in 1880 by former pupils of the High School of Dundee. Morgan Academy
Morgan Academy is a Secondary School in the Stobswell area of Dundee, Scotland. History The building was designed in 1862 by the Edinburgh architects John Dick Peddie and Charles Kinnear, opening in 1866 as the Morgan Hospital, a charitable institution providing accommodation and education for "sons of tradesmen and persons of the working class generally whose parents stand in the need of assistance". In 1888, Morgan Hospital closed and a year later in 1889, the school opened as Morgan Academy, often referred to by alumni as "The Morgan" or simply "Morgan". The architecture is designated as a Category 'A' listing by Historic Scotland. The Super 6 is a professional league for Scottish rugby union clubs, which began in 2019. As of 2022, the league consists of three competitions; * FOSROC Super6 Sprint Season - running from April to June, involving a single round robin, followed by two further matches to decide final positions; * FOSROC Super 6 Pro-Alignment Match - a one-off representative game between the best players from the 'Edinburgh' affiliated clubs and 'Glasgow' affiliated clubs, similar in some ways to State of Origin; * FOSROC Super6 Championship, the primary competition of the three, involving a full double round robin, and a series of play-offs. North And Midlands
North and Midlands - and now known as Caledonia - is a select provincial amateur rugby union team that draws its players mainly from north of Scotland, roughly corresponding from around Stirling northwards. Historically the North and Midlands team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. When the professional Caledonia Reds provincial side folded in 1998, the North and Midlands amateur district was resurrected and renamed Caledonia. The team played as Caledonia in three seasons of an amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship from 1999 to 2002. The amateur Scottish Inter-District Championship was revived for 2022-23 season, and the Caledonia district now plays there. The Caledonia region also still plays at age-grade.
