Moorestown Mall is a shopping mall in Moorestown, New Jersey, owned by Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust. The mall has over 90 stores and is anchored by Boscov's, Five Below, HomeSense, Michaels, Planet Fitness, and Sierra Trading Post. History Moorestown Mall originally opened for business in 1963 with Gimbels, Wanamaker's, and Woolworths as the original anchors. In 1971, Sears built a new store and relocated from Camden, NJ. Gimbels became Stern's in 1986 and closed in 1990. It later became Ports of the World, a new concept by Boscov's only to be converted to Boscov's not long after. Moorestown Mall underwent a partial renovation in 1986 and was completely renovated in 1993-94, after a serious fire damaged the northeast quarter of the mall on December 23, 1992. Moorestown is a Township (New Jersey), township in Burlington County, New Jersey, Burlington County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is an eastern suburb of Philadelphia and geographically part of the South Jersey region of the state. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 U.S. census, the township's population was 21,355, an increase of 629 (+3.0%) from the 2010 United States census, 2010 census count of 20,726, which reflected an increase of 1,709 (+9.0%) from the 19,017 counted in the 2000 United States census, 2000 census. Stern's (originally Stern Brothers) was a regional department store chain serving the U.S. states of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The chain was in business for more than 130 years. In 2001, Stern's parent company Federated Department Stores opted to retire the Stern's brand. Voorhees Town Center (formerly Echelon Mall) is a regional shopping mall and a residential area located in Voorhees Township, New Jersey. It was built in 1970 and named after Echelon Airfield which was located where the mall stands today. The Echelon Mall was renamed Voorhees Town Center in 2007. Boscov's currently serves as the only anchor of the mall. Property history The site on which the Echelon Mall was built began as an airfield; nearly of farmland bought by flying enthusiasts Rogers and Jeannette Smith in 1939. Lord & Taylor was the oldest brick and mortar department store in the United States, in business from 1826 to 2020. The brand was purchased during former owner Le Tote's 2020 liquidation bankruptcy and relaunched by new owner, Saadia Group, as an online retail operation in the fall of 2022.
