Mood Indigo
"Mood Indigo" is a jazz song with music by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard and lyrics by Irving Mills. Composition Although Irving Mills—Jack Mills's brother and publishing partner—took credit for the lyrics, Mitchell Parish claimed in a 1987 interview that he had written the lyrics. The tune was composed for a radio broadcast in October 1930 and was originally titled "Dreamy Blues". It was "the first tune I ever wrote specially for microphone transmission", Ellington recalled. "The next day wads of mail came in raving about the new tune, so Irving Mills put a lyric to it." Renamed "Mood Indigo", it became a jazz standard." The main theme was provided by Bigard, who learned it in New Orleans, Louisiana from his clarinet teacher Lorenzo Tio, who called it a "Mexican Blues". Ellington's arrangement was first recorded by his band for Brunswick on October 17, 1930. It was recorded twice more in 1930. Mood Indigo, affectionately known as MoodI or MI, is the cultural and signature festival of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. It is usually held towards the end of December every year. Started in 1971 by a group of students, it has attracted considerable media attention and numerous sponsors over time. Mood Indigo is also held in over 2000+ colleges and universities before ending in IIT Bombay. History A group of the first Mood Indigo organizers - gave the festival its name from Duke Ellington's Jazz piece 'Mood Indigo'. Mood Indigo had a legacy of organisers that include Nandan Nilekani, Anand Sivakumaran among others. Mood Indigo was started back in 1971, with a budget of 5,000, contributed partly by the IIT Bombay Gymkhana and partly by advertisements. ''Froth on the Daydream'' (french: L'Écume des jours, "The froth of days") is a 1947 novel by French author Boris Vian. Though told as a linear narrative, the novel employs surrealism and contains multiple plot lines, including the love stories of two couples, talking mice, and a man who ages years in a week. One of the main plot lines concerns a newlywed man whose wife develops a rare and bizarre illness that can only be treated by surrounding her with flowers. The book has been translated several times into English under different titles. ''Mood Indigo'' (french: L'écume des jours, "The froth of days") is a 2013 French surrealistic romantic science fantasy film co-written and directed by Michel Gondry and co-written and produced by Luc Bossi, starring Romain Duris and Audrey Tautou. It is an adaptation of Boris Vian's 1947 novel with the same French title, translated '' Froth on the Daydream'' in English. The film received two nominations at the 4th Magritte Awards. It also received three nominations at the 39th César Awards, winning in one category.
