Montfermeil () is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the center of Paris. Montfermeil is famous as the location of Thénardiers' inn in ''Les Misérables''. Sempin Windmill
The Sempin Windmill, or Moulin de Montfermeil, is a windmill located in Montfermeil in the French department of Seine-Saint-Denis, approximately east of Paris.« Moulin de Montfermeil » - 136, rue des Moulins - 93370 Montfermeil It is the last surviving windmill in the department. History The tower was originally built in 1740 to replace the Bruyères windmill, which had been built in 1525 but had become obsolete. It was rented for the first time by Messire Hocquart to Jacques Boyartaux on May 6, 1742. The windmill, reconstructed in 1818, fell into disrepair in the nineteenth century after it became redundant with competition from another mill. It was restored in 1896 when it was known as Moulin de la Galette and became a Sunday attraction. In the twentieth century, the windmill again began to deteriorate. Ladj Ly (; born 19 March 1980 in Paris) is a French film director and screenwriter. He won a Jury Prize in Cannes Film Festival for ''Les Misérables'' in 2019. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Biography Ly's parents are from Mali and he grew up in Montfermeil, a district of Bosquets. He started making films with his friends Kim Chapiron, Romain Gavras, and JR, in the collective Kourtrajmé. He directed his first films, notably for Oxmo Puccino, and his first documentaries, ' (''365 days in Clichy-Montfermeil''), filmed after the 2005 French riots; ''Go Fast Connexion''; and ''365 jours au Mali'' (''365 days in Mali''). Christopher Maboulou (19 March 1990 – 10 January 2021) was a French professional footballer who played as a winger or as a forward. He played for Ligue 1 side Bastia, multiple Ligue 2 teams, and Greek team PAS Giannina. Career Maboulou was born in the Bosquets area of Montfermeil, France. Aged 8, he joined a local football club, and played for them for 10 years. He played 16 games for Châteauroux between 2009 and 2011. In 2011, Maboulou developed a heart problem, which preventing him from playing for two years, as doctors declared him unfit to play. In 2013, Maboulou signed a one-year contract with Châteauroux, and in 2014, he joined Ligue 1 side SC Bastia, on a three-year contract. Parc Arboretum De Montfermeil
The Parc Arboretum de Montfermeil (10.9 hectares) is a park and arboretum located in Montfermeil, Seine-Saint-Denis, Île-de-France, France. It is open daily without charge. The park was formed by combining two existing parks, the former parc du Château des Cèdres and parc Jean Valjean, with extensive landscaping during which 731 trees and bushes were planted, adding to those 489 trees already in place. It opened to the public in 2006. The park's major feature is a long, curving dike that separates the site into two distinct sections: a large park in the natural style to the northwest, and a small, geometric space to the east. Each has its own pond on either side of the dike. The park contains 3.3 kilometers of walking and cycling paths. The Thénardiers, commonly known as (; ) and , are fictional characters, and the secondary antagonists in Victor Hugo's 1862 novel and in many adaptations of the novel into other media. They are ordinary working-class people who blame society for their sufferings. Early in the novel, they own an inn and cheat their customers. After they lose the inn in bankruptcy, they change their name to and live by begging and petty thievery.
