Montague Ainslie
Montague Ainslie (28 April 1792 – 1 February 1884) was an English forester and businessman whose interests included the iron ore company Harrison Ainslie. Early life and education Son of Henry Ainslie, MD, and Agnes, daughter of William Ford, of Coniston Water Head and Grizedale, Ainslie was educated at Hawkshead Grammar School and at Sedbergh School, later studying at Charterhouse School and Haileybury and Imperial Service College. Activities Ainslie worked in the Indian Civil Service at Bengal from 1807 to 1840, including as political agent at Blundlecund. On leaving the Indian Civil Service, Ainslie became a partner in the ironworks of Messrs Harrison and Ainslie, at Ulverston. On inheriting the Grizedale Estate from his parents, in 1841 he converted Ford Lodge into a larger residence, which became known as Grizedale New Hall. Montague James Mathew
Lieutenant General Montague James Mathew (18 August 1773 – 19 March 1819) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and politician, a member of the Irish House of Commons for Ballynakill until 1800 and of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom for County Tipperary from 1806 until his death in 1819. In politics, he was both a Whig and a supporter of Catholic Emancipation and other Roman Catholic causes, which brought him into conflict with many members of his class in Ireland. Life Mathew was the second son of Francis Mathew, 1st Earl Landaff. He was commissioned into the British Army as a Cornet in 1792, became a Lieutenant in 1793, and on 13 September 1794 was promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in the 114th Foot, a new regiment raised that year by his father. Montague Modlyn (23 May 1921 – 6 May 1994),Anthony Haywar ''The Independent'', 14 May 1994 known as Monty Modlyn, was a British journalist, best known as a radio and TV presenter. Modlyn worked extensively on radio and TV, often as a roving reporter. Early life Modlyn was born in Lambeth, the son of a Jewish tailor, and left school at 14. His family owned two clothes shops and a market stall in Lower Marsh, Waterloo. Modlyn worked as a proofreader's assistant for the ''Daily Mail'' and then wrote for the ''South London Press'' and the ''Evening Standard''. He then worked as a hairdresser before joining the family business. Career During the second world war he served in the RAF. Early years Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, Love was the son of Harry Love and Fanny Louisa Love, née Poad; his father was listed as accountant on the 1881 English Census. Career Educated in Great Britain, Love began his career as an artist, with his first important job as an illustrator for ''The Illustrated Daily News'' in London. Love's acting debut came with an American company in a production in the Isle of Wight. His Broadway debut occurred in ''The Second in Command'' (1913). He was typically cast in heartless villain roles. Montague Lessler (January 1, 1869 – February 17, 1938) was an American lawyer and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from New York. Born in New York City, Lessler attended the public schools. He was graduated from the College of the City of New York in 1889 and later from the Columbia Law School. He was admitted to the bar in 1891 and commenced the practice of his profession in New York City. Lessler was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-seventh Congress in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Nicholas Muller and served from January 7, 1902 to March 3, 1903. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1902 for a full term in the Fifty-eighth Congress. He resumed the practice of law in New York City until his death there on February 17, 1938. Montague Leslie Hambling (6 December 1893 – 22 August 1960) played first-class cricket for Somerset between 1920 and 1927. He was born at Croydon, then in Surrey, and died at Stoke Bishop, Bristol. Hambling was a right-handed middle order batsman and a right-arm fast bowler. One of Somerset captain John Daniell's recruits for the 1920 matches against the universities, he took wickets and made a few runs against both Cambridge and Oxford. But it was in his first County Championship match against Warwickshire that Hambling's promise was revealed: he scored 59 and Somerset won the match by nine wickets. Montague John Guest (29 March 1839 – 9 November 1909), was a British Liberal politician. Family A member of the prominent Guest family, he was the third son of Sir John Josiah Guest, 1st Baronet, and his second wife Lady Charlotte, daughter of Albemarle Bertie, 9th Earl of Lindsey. Ivor Guest, 1st Baron Wimborne, was his elder brother, while Ivor Guest, 1st Viscount Wimborne, Frederick Edward Guest, Henry Guest and Oscar Guest were his nephews. Charles Gore of Honbury, Gloucestershire and was the member of a branch of the Gore family that descended from Sir John Gore, Lord Mayor of London in 1624, younger son of Gerard Gore, whose elder son Sir Paul Gore, 1st Baronet, was the ancestor of the Earls of Arran, the Barons Annaly and the Barons Harlech.
