Monsun
Monsun (4 March 1990 – 9 September 2012) was a bay Thoroughbred racehorse and stallion bred in Germany by Gestüt Isarland and owned by Baron Georg von Ullmann. Background Monsun was a son of Germany's first triple crown winner and champion racehorse and sire, Königsstuhl, a descendant of the influential sire, Bahram. Monsun's dam was Mosella who was sired by Surumu, a multi champion racehorse. Monsun was a strong, 16.1hh and attractive horse. He was a high-class middle-distance racehorse who was particularly effective on rain-affected surface. His trainer was Heinz Jentzsch. He was blind later in life. Stacelita
Stacelita (foaled 17 April 2006) is a Thoroughbred racehorse who was a Classic winner while based in France and became an Eclipse Award winner when relocated to the United States. Background Stacelita is a dark bay or black mare who was bred in France by Jean-Pierre Joseph Dubois. By leading German sire Monsun, she was out of the stakes-winning mare Soignée by Dashing Blade. Martin Schwartz bought a share in the mare from her breeder in May 2009 and then assumed full ownership in 2010. She was originally trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, and later by Chad Brown. Racing career Stacelita began her career with six straight wins including the Group I Prix Saint-Alary, Prix de Diane and Prix Vermeille, the latter as a result of the disqualification of Dar Re Mi. Estimate (horse)
Estimate (foaled 4 April 2009) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old. As a four-year-old she won the Sagaro Stakes before returning to Royal Ascot to win the Gold Cup. She was owned by Queen Elizabeth II and trained by Sir Michael Stoute. In 2014 she tested positive to morphine in a post race drugs test and was disqualified from second place in the Gold Cup, but went on to win the Doncaster Cup. Background Estimate is a bay filly bred by the Aga Khan's Studs and foaled on 4 April 2009. She was sired by Monsun, who won the Europa Preis twice. He was also a successful stallion, siring Shirocco, Manduro and Stacelita. Estimate's dam is Ebaziya, a daughter of Darshaan. Manduro
Manduro (March 9, 2002 – June 27, 2020) was a World Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. He was a multiple Group One winner in Germany. Background Sired by Monsun, he was out of the mare Mandellicht, a daughter of Northern Dancer's son Be My Guest who was the Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland in 1982. Manduro was purchased by Baron Georg von Ullmann, a German member of the Oppenheim banking family, who owns Gestüt Schlenderhan, one of Germany's oldest stud farms. Baron von Ullmann, who owns Manduro's sire, had previously met with considerable success in racing with a number of horses, the most notable of which was another son of Monsun, Shirocco. The Gerling-Preis is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles) at Cologne in late April or early May. History The event was established in 1921, and it was originally called the Preis von Birlinghoven. Its distance frequently changed during the early part of its history. Robert Gerling, an insurance entrepreneur, became the sponsor of the race in 1934. From this point it was known as the Gerling-Preis. The race began its current period over 2,400 metres in 1969. It held Group 3 status from 1972 to 1974, and from 1984 to 1988. Shirocco
Shirocco (foaled 10 April 2001) is a German Thoroughbred racehorse. He was trained in his native Germany by Andreas Schütz up to the end of his three-year-old season before moving to French trainer André Fabre to race as a four and five year old. Background Shirocco was sired by Monsun, a German racehorse and leading sire. His dam was The Minstrel mare So Sedulous who won two races when trained in England by Geoff Wragg. She was also the dam of Subiaco (winner of the Group 2 Gerling-Preis) and stakes winners Satchmo, Storm Trooper and September Storm. Königsstuhl (horse)
Königsstuhl (17 May 1976 – 1995) was a German thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In 1979 he won the German Triple Crown and is the first horse that won all the races necessary for this crown. Since 1979 no other horse has won the crown. In addition to racing success, he was named German horse of 1979 and was German champion sire in 1988 and 1994. Background Königsstuhl was a black/darkbay thoroughbred. The stallion was born at the stud Zoppenbroich in West Germany. He was a son of Dschingis Khan (1961–1986) (Tamerlane -Donna Diana) and his dam was Königskrönung (1958–† ) (Tiepoletto-Krönung). The Frühjahrs Dreijährigen-Preis is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles) at Frankfurt in late April or early May. History The event was established in 1965, and it was originally called the Adolf Schindling-Rennen. It was named in memory of Adolf Schindling (1887–1963), a Frankfurt-born businessman who owned the successful stud farm Gestüt Asta. The race was given Group 3 status in 1982. For a period it was sponsored by Steigenberger Hotels and run as the Preis der Steigenberger Hotels. It was later backed by BMW and titled the BMW Händler-Trophy. The Bavarian Classic is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run at Munich over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early May. History The event was established in 1969, and the inaugural running was titled the Preis des Kaufhauses Hertie. It became known as the Grosser Hertie-Preis in 1970, and for a period its distance ranged from 1,850 to 2,200 metres. It was given Group 2 status in 1977, and from this point it was regularly contested over 2,200 metres. The race was known as the Grosser Müller-Brot-Preis from 1997, and it was cut to 2,000 metres in 1998. It was downgraded to Group 3 level and renamed the Bavarian Classic in 2004.
