Monkton Swifts are a Welsh football club from Monkton, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire in the southwest of Wales. They spent six seasons in the Welsh Football League from 1994–95 to 1999–2000. The club currently play in the Pembrokeshire League Division One. They have been champions of this league on five occasions, the last of which was in 2018–19. History A pre World War Two team existed called Monkton United, records of which exist with the team playing in 1926. On 5 December 1955, a meeting was held in Monkton Church Hall with the aim to form a new football club which it was hoped would be entered in the Pembrokeshire League for the 1956–57 season. Monkton, Pembroke
Monkton is a village and parish adjoining Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, the population was 1,688. History Monkton Priory, on a hill across the river from the Pembroke Castle, was founded in 1098 by Arnulf de Montgomery. Monkton Old Hall was originally a guest house for the Priory. In 1833, the parish was part of the Hundred of Castlemartin, with a population of 1,128, and included Hundleton, Bentlass and other small settlements. In 2000, Monkton was ranked the 14th most disadvantaged place in Wales and was given access to the Communities First programme. Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship no longer has a base in the village, having closed due to repeated burglaries. The Welsh Football League (also known as the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh Football League for sponsorship reasons) was a club football league in Wales. For its final season in 2019–20 season it operated at levels 3 and 4 of the Welsh football league system. Level 3 – the Welsh Football League Division One and level 4 Welsh Football League Division Two. It folded in 2020 after the Football Association of Wales took over the running of tier 3 leagues and the responsibility for tier 4 passed to regional football associations. The Pembrokeshire League (currently the ''Manderwood Pembrokeshire League'') is a football league in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, running from levels five to nine of the Welsh football league system. Teams promoted from Division One may enter the West Wales Premier League if standards and facilities fall into line with the regulations of the Welsh Football League. The Pembrokeshire League also enters teams into the West Wales Intermediate Cup, to play against clubs from the Carmarthenshire League, Neath & District League and Swansea Senior League.
