Moment Of Glory
''Moment of Glory'' is an album by German hard rock band Scorpions. It was recorded in collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and released in 2000. The album features re-arranged songs from the Scorpions repertoire, as well as classical interludes, a cover song and the new single "Moment of Glory". Initially, English composer Andrew Powell was asked to provide arrangements and Michael Kamen was designated next for the orchestral material. Acoustica (Scorpions Album)
''Acoustica'' is an unplugged live album by German hard rock band Scorpions. It was released in 2001 on East West Records. Background Acoustica was recorded during three concerts held in February 2001 at the Convento do Beato in Lisbon, Portugal. It was a most unusual set for the band, as Klaus Meine comments on the DVD. The group was supported by female backing vocalists, a percussionist, an extra guitarist, and Christian Kolonovits on keyboards. Kolonovits also collaborated on rearranging the songs for the acoustic set. He had previously worked with the band as a conductor and arranger on the ''Moment of Glory'' album. Scorpions performed four new songs: "Life Is Too Short", "Back to You", "I Wanted to Cry" and "When Love Kills Love", the last of which was released as a single. "Here in My Heart" is a song by American singer Tiffany, which was released as the second single from her third studio album ''New Inside''. The song was written by Diane Warren and produced by Phillip Damien. Background "Here in My Heart" was originally dedicated to AIDS victim Ryan White; however, as an attempt to take advantage of current events, it was rededicated to the troops serving in the Gulf War and became the official USO song. The song was released in America and Japan only as a promotional single and was therefore ineligible to chart. Composition and initial success Composer Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi and poet Mikhail Matusovsky wrote the song in 1955 with the title "Leningrad Nights" ( rus, Ленинградские вечера, Leningradskije večera, ), but at the request of the Soviet Ministry of Culture, the song was renamed "Moscow Nights" and made corresponding changes to the lyrics. In 1956, "Moscow Nights" was recorded by Vladimir Troshin, a young actor of the Moscow Art Theatre, for a scene in a Documentary film, documentary about Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic's athletic competition Spartakiad in which the athletes rest in ''Podmoskovye'', the Moscow suburbs. Scott Lawton (conductor)
Scott Lawton (born 1960 in New Castle, Pennsylvania) is an American conductor based in Germany. Career and education Lawton has served as the Principal Conductor of the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg in Potsdam since 1999. His activities with the Filmorchester include performances of silent films, studio recordings for film and television productions and orchestral concerts. Since 2005 he has served as conductor of the Landespolizeiorchester Nordrhein-Westfalen, a professional symphonic wind orchestra based in Wuppertal. From 2004 to 2009 he also served as music director of the summer festival in Bad Gandersheim. Michael Custodis (born 1973) is a German musicologist, sociologist and university lecturer at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. Career Born in Cologne, Custodis studied musicology, sociology, comparative politics, educational science and film studies at the Universität Mainz. He then moved to the University of Bergen (Norway) and finally to Albrecht Riethmüller at Freie Universität Berlin. ''S&M'' (an abbreviation of ''Symphony and Metallica'') is a live album by American heavy metal band Metallica, with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Kamen. It was recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999, at The Berkeley Community Theatre. This is the final Metallica album to feature bassist Jason Newsted. Album information ''S&M'' contains performances of Metallica songs with additional symphonic accompaniment, composed by Michael Kamen, who also conducted the orchestra during the concert. Michael Arnold Kamen (April 15, 1948 – November 18, 2003) was an American composer (especially of film scores), orchestral arranger, orchestral conductor, songwriter, and session musician. Biography Early life Michael Arnold Kamen was born in New York City, the second of four sons. His father, Saul Kamen, was a dentist, and his mother, Helen, was a teacher. He was of Jewish heritage. While attending the High School of Music & Art in New York City, Kamen became friends with Martin Fulterman (later known as Mark Snow), who composed the theme music for ''The X-Files'', among other projects. Andrew Powell
Andrew Powell (born 18 April 1949) is an English musical composer, arranger and performer, born of Welsh parents. He himself moved to Wales in 2003. Early life Powell was born Surrey, England. He began piano lessons at the age of four and later attended King's College School, Wimbledon, by which time he was also learning viola, violin and orchestral percussion. He was writing music by the age of eleven and later studied composition with Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti at Darmstadt in Germany, before taking a music master's degree at King's College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge he joined an electronic music group, Intermodulation, with Roger Smalley, Tim Souster and Robin Thompson, and a local progressive rock group, Henry Cow, formed by Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson, in which he alternated between bass and drums.
