Mojtaba Abedini
Mojtaba Abedini Shourmasti ( fa, مجتبی عابدینی شورمستی; born 11 August 1984) is an Iranian 3-time Olympian sabre fencer. In 2012, he became the first Iranian fencer to compete in the Olympics. He won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Fencing Championships, becoming the first-ever Iranian fencer to win a medal at the World Fencing Championships. Early life Abedini was born in Tehran, Iran. He has a master's degree in Sport Administration/Management from the University of Tehran ('14), and speaks English and Persian. His wife is Narges Faal, and he has two daughters. Fencing career Abedini won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Fencing Championships in Budapest, Hungary, losing only to Hungarian former world champion András Szatmári, becoming the first-ever Iranian fencer to win a medal at the World Fencing Championships. Tehran
Tehran (; fa, تهران ) is the largest city in Tehran Province and the capital of Iran. 2005 West Asian Games
The 3rd West Asian Games were to be held from 7 to 17 April 2003 in Damascus, Syria. However, they were postponed and then cancelled. On 4 April 2002 the West Asian Games Federation decided that the Games would be held every four years, instead of two, namely one year before the Asian Games. The Third West Asian Games was held from the 1 to 10 December 2005 in Doha, Qatar as test event for the 2006 Asian Games and involved over 1,200 athletes from 13 nations participating in 11 sports. 2002 West Asian Games
The 2002 West Asian Games was the second edition of the multi-sport event for countries in West Asia and was held in Kuwait City from 3 to 12 April 2002. The competition was initially expected to be organised in Qatar in 1999, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the Games were not held. The Games were then expected to be held in Lebanon in 2001, but were then cancelled and relocated to Kuwait. The 2nd West Asian Games were expected to be held from 20 to 30 October 2001, but due to armed conflicts in the region, they had to be postponed. The West Asian Games (also known as the WAG) was a multi-sport event held every four years among the athletes from West Asia. The West Asian Games was first organised in Tehran, Iran and was considered as the first of its kind. The success of the Games led to the creation of the West Asian Games Federation (WAGF) and the intention of hosting the Games every four years. At present, the WAGF comprises 12 member countries, namely Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Islamic Solidarity Games
The Islamic Solidarity Games ( ar, ألعاب التضامن الإسلامي) is a multinational, multi-sport event. The Games involve the elite athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation who compete in a variety of sports. The Solidarity Games were initially created to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Islamic Solidarity Games. The ISSF strives to improve Islamic solidarity, promote Islamic identity in sports and help reduce discrimination toward Muslims.
