Mohsen Esmaeili
Mohsen Esmaeili ( fa, محسن اسماعیلی, born 6 April 1964) is an Iranian consulting jurist and member of both the Guardian Council and Assembly of Experts. As a member of the Guardian Council, Esmaeili has veto power over all parliamentary legislations. He has written several books and extensive number of legal articles including large number of project research papers in Persian. In 2016, he was elected as a member of Assembly of Experts. He is the first non-cleric member of the assembly. Personal life Esmaeili was born in Iran in 1964. He received his Ph.D in private law magna cum laude from Tarbiat Modares University and was recognized by the Ministry of Science. Research and Technology for ranking first in the Iran for undergraduate, graduate studies. Assembly Of Experts
The Assembly of Experts ( fa, مجلس خبرگان رهبری, majles-e khobregân-e rahbari), also translated as the Assembly of Experts of the Leadership or as the Council of Experts, is the deliberative body empowered to appoint the Supreme Leader of Iran. All directly elected members must first be vetted by the Guardian Council. All candidates to the Assembly of Experts must be approved by the Guardian Council whose members are, in turn, appointed either directly or indirectly by the Supreme Leader. The Assembly consists of 88 Mujtahids that are elected(see Article 108 of the constitution) from lists of thoroughly vetted candidates (in 2016 166 candidates were approved by the Guardians out of 801 who applied to run for the office), by direct public vote for eight-year terms. The number of members has ranged from 82 elected in 1982 to 88 elected in 2016. Current laws require the assembly to meet at least twice every six months. Guardian Council
The Guardian Council, (also called Council of Guardians or Constitutional Council, fa, شورای نگهبان, Shourā-ye Negahbān) is an appointed and constitutionally mandated 12-member council that wields considerable power and influence in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The constitution of the Islamic Republic gives the council three mandates: :a) veto power over legislation passed by the parliament (Majles); :b) supervision of elections; and :c) approving or disqualifying candidates seeking to run in local, parliamentary, presidential, or Assembly of Experts elections. Persian (), also known by its endonym Farsi (, ', ), is a Western Iranian language belonging to the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian subdivision of the Indo-European languages. 2016 Iranian Assembly Of Experts Election
The fifth Iranian Assembly of Experts election were held in Iran on 26 February 2016 to elect the members of the Assembly of Experts. All 88 members of the Assembly of Experts, who are known as mujtahids, are directly elected. The elections had been planned for 2014, but were delayed in order for the election to be held alongside the Islamic Consultative Assembly elections. The winning candidates of the elections, sitting until 2024, may have to choose the next Supreme Leader of Iran, or at least plan for it. The current Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei (born ), is reported from time to time to be in poor health.
