Modern Vampires Of The City
''Modern Vampires of the City'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band Vampire Weekend. It was released on May 14, 2013, by XL Recordings. The group began to write songs for the album during soundchecks on the supporting concert tour for their 2010 album ''Contra''. After a period in which each member explored individual musical projects, they regrouped and continued working on ''Modern Vampires of the City'' in 2011. With no deadline in mind, the band brought in an outside record producer for the first time, Ariel Rechtshaid, to record the album. With ''Modern Vampires of the City'', Vampire Weekend attempted to depart from the African-influenced indie pop style of their previous records. Broadly experimental, the album's sound was the result of a variety of unconventional recording assets, including pitch shifting. Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend is an American rock band from New York City, formed in 2006 and currently signed to Columbia Records. The band was formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Ezra Koenig, multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, drummer Chris Tomson, and bassist Chris Baio. Batmanglij departed the group in early 2016. The band's eponymous first album ''Vampire Weekend'' (2008)—which included charting singles "A-Punk" and " Oxford Comma"—showcased a blend of indie pop, Afropop influences, and chamber music elements, and has been hailed as one of the greatest debut albums. Major Lazer
Major Lazer is an American electronic dance music DJ trio, which includes record producer Diplo, and DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. It originates from Kingston, Jamaica, and was founded in 2008 by Diplo and Switch, with Switch leaving after three years in 2011. He was then replaced by both Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. In June 2019, Jillionaire left the group and was replaced by Ape Drums. Its music spans numerous genres, mixing reggae with dancehall, reggaeton, soca, house and moombahton. Das Racist was an American alternative hip hop group based in Brooklyn, composed of MCs Heems and Kool A.D. and hype man Ashok Kondabolu (a.k.a. Dapwell or Dap). Known for their use of humor, academic references, foreign allusions, and unconventional style, Das Racist has occasionally been hailed as an urgent new voice in rap but often dismissed as joke rap. Robert Byington (born April 29, 1966) is an American film director, screenwriter and actor living in Austin, Texas. Pazz & Jop was an annual poll of top musical releases, compiled by American newspaper ''The Village Voice'' and created by music critic Robert Christgau. 1966 New York City Smog
The 1966 New York City smog was a major air-pollution episode and environmental disaster, coinciding with that year's Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Smog covered the city and its surrounding area from November23 to 26, filling the city's air with damaging levels of several toxic pollutants. It was the third major smog in New York City, following events of similar scale in 1953 and 1963. On November 23, a large mass of stagnant air over the East Coast trapped pollutants in the city's air. Neal Boenzi
Neal Boenzi (November 15, 1925 – April 3, 2023) was an American photojournalist who worked for ''the New York Times''. Biography Boenzi was born in South Brooklyn, New York City, New York, on November 15, 1925. He was one of five children of a plumber father and a mother who helped her children make bouquets out of artificial flowers at home. He dropped out of college to serve in the United States Marines during World War II. In 1946, he returned to the United States, and soon afterward began working as an "office boy" at the ''New York Times''. Within a year, he had begun taking photos for the ''Times'', and in 1955, he was promoted to staff photographer at the paper. He quit working at the ''Times'' in 1991 because they wanted to give him a computer. He has two children, a daughter named Jeanette born in 1951, and a son named John born in 1954.
