Modaspor (basketball)
Modaspor basketball team ( tr, Modaspor basketbol takımı) is the amateur basketball department of the Turkish sports club Modaspor, based in the district of Kadıköy, Istanbul. The team competes in the Istanbul Men's Amateur League. History The basketball team of Modaspor was founded in 1946 and soon became one of the most successful Turkish basketball teams in the 1950s. The club managed to win the Turkish Basketball Championship in 1954, 1955, and 1958 and won the Istanbul Basketball League in the 1958–59 season. Modaspor became the first Turkish club to represent Turkey in the inaugural season of the newly founded FIBA European Champions Cup. Kadıköy
Kadıköy (), known in classical antiquity and during the Roman and Byzantine eras as Chalcedon ( gr, Χαλκηδών), is a large, populous, and cosmopolitan district in the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey, on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara. It partially faces the historic city centre of Fatih on the European side of the Bosporus. One of the expensive neighborhood in Istanbul. Kadıköy is also the name of the most prominent neighbourhood of the district, a residential and commercial area that, with its numerous bars, cinemas and bookshops, is the liberal cultural centre of the Anatolian side of Istanbul. An amateur () is generally considered a person who pursues an avocation independent from their source of income. 1958 FIBA European Champions Cup
The 1958 FIBA European Champions Cup was the inaugural season of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). It was won by Rīgas ASK, after they won both EuroLeague Finals games against Academic. Previously, they had not played the semifinals, as Real Madrid was not allowed to travel to Soviet Riga by the Francoist authorities. The first game was held on February 22, 1958, in Brussels, Belgium, where Belgian League champion Royal IV, defeated the Luxembourger League champions, Etzella Ettelbruck, by a score of 82–43. The most notable contributors to Riga's first title included center Jānis Krūmiņš and head coach Alexander Gomelsky. Competition system 23 teams.
