Moana Pasifika
Moana Pasifika is a rugby union team made up of players from various Pacific island nations as well as New Zealand or Australian born players of Pasifika heritage, including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. The team was originally created for a one-off match against the Māori All Blacks in December 2020, with the future intention of trying to join the Super Rugby competition. On 14 April 2021, New Zealand Rugby confirmed the side had been granted a conditional licence to join the Super Rugby competition. On 12 July 2021, the team was granted an unconditional licence, confirming them for the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific season. The team played its inaugural Super Rugby match on 4 March 2022. 2020 Super Rugby Season
The 2020 Super Rugby season was the 25th season of Super Rugby, an international men's rugby union competition organised by SANZAAR involving teams from Argentina, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa. It is the third tournament in its current 15 team format, the last before the Japanese side the Sunwolves withdraw from the tournament ahead of a new format in 2021. The current champions are the Crusaders, who won their 10th title in 2019. On 14 March 2020, it was announced that play would be suspended after the conclusion of the weekend's fixtures, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a travel restriction that was announced by New Zealand earlier in the day. Joe Apikotoa
Joe 'Apikotoa (born 18 July 1996) is a rugby union player, who currently plays as a prop for in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition and for in Super Rugby. He was born and raised in New Zealand, but has represented Tonga internationally, for which he is eligible due to his Tongan descent. Early career 'Apikotoa was born in Wellington and attended St Patrick's College, Silverstream, where he played both rugby and league. The 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season (known as Harvey Norman Super Rugby Pacific in Australia, Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific in Fiji and DHL Super Rugby Pacific in New Zealand) is the 28th season of Super Rugby, an annual rugby union competition organised by SANZAAR between teams from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga. Solomone Funaki (born 25 April 1994) is a Tongan rugby union player, who currently plays as a loose forward for in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition and in Super Rugby. Early life and career Funaki was born in Fanga 'o Pilolevu in Nuku'alofa, Tonga. In 2015, he moved to Auckland in New Zealand, where he played club rugby for Grammar TEC. That same year, he was named in the Auckland Colts squad. Due to visa problems, he had to go back to Tonga, but in 2016 he returned to New Zealand to play club rugby in Whakatane for Paroa Sports Rugby Club in the Eastern Bay of Plenty competition. Flanker (rugby Union)
Flanker is a position in the sport of rugby union. Each team of 15 players includes two flankers, who play in the forwards, and are generally classified as either blindside or openside flankers, numbers 6 and 7 respectively. The name comes from their position in a scrum in which they 'flank' each set of forwards. They compete for the ball – most commonly in rucks and mauls. Flankers also assist in pushing in a scrum, but are expected to detach from the scrum as soon as the ball is out to get to the play before the opposition's forwards.
