Mixed-NOCs At The 2016 Winter Youth Olympics
Teams made up of athletes representing different National Olympic Committees (NOCs), called mixed-NOCs teams, participated in the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics. These teams participated in either events composed entirely of mixed-NOCs teams, or in events which saw the participation of mixed-NOCs teams ''and'' non-mixed-NOCs teams. When a mixed-NOCs team won a medal, the Olympic flag was raised rather than a national flag; if a mixed-NOCs team won gold, the Olympic anthem would be played instead of national anthems. A total of 6 events with Mixed NOCs were held. Background The concept of ''mixed-NOCs'' was introduced in the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, in which athletes from different nations would compete in the same team, often representing their continent. This is in contrast to the Mixed team (IOC code: ''ZZX'') found at early senior Olympic Games. Olympic Flag
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) uses icons, flags and symbols to elevate the Olympic Games. These symbols include those commonly used during Olympic competition—such as the flame, fanfare and theme—as well as those used throughout the years, such as the Olympic flag. Li Xiangning
Li Xiangning (; ; born May 11, 2000) is a Chinese figure skater. She is the 2018 Cup of Nice silver medalist. the 2018 Chinese national champion, and a two-time Chinese national silver medalist (2016, 2017). On the junior level, she is the 2016 Youth Olympic champion in the team event. She placed 22nd at the 2018 Winter Olympics and 12th at the 2016 Youth Olympics. Li switched to pair skating during the 2018–19 figure skating season, partnering with Xie Zhong, but has since returned to singles before ever debuting competitively in pairs. Gao Yumeng
Gao Yumeng (; born April 13, 2001) is a Chinese pair skater. With her skating partner, Xie Zhong, she is the 2017 World Junior bronze medalist and 2017 Chinese national bronze medalist on the senior level. Early career Gao began learning to skate in 2008. During the 2015–2016 season, she competed in partnership with Li Bowen. Competing on the senior level, they finished 5th at the 2016 Chinese Championships. They placed 7th at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics, held in February in Hamar, Norway, and 13th at the 2016 World Junior Championships, held in March in Debrecen, Hungary. The pair was coached by Luan Bo, Song Lun, and Li Yinwei in Harbin, China. Fruzsina Medgyesi
Fruzsina Medgyesi (born 18 June 1999) is a Hungarian figure skater. She is the 2016 Skate Helena champion, the 2018 Hungarian national champion, and a two-time Hungarian national silver medalist. On the junior level, she is the 2016 Youth Olympics team event bronze medalist, and the 2015 Santa Claus Cup champion. Career Early years Medgyesi began learning to skate in 2004. She made her first appearance on the junior international level in November 2013, at Skate Celje. Deniss Vasiļjevs
Deniss Vasiļjevs (born 9 August 1999) is a Latvian figure skater. He is the 2022 European bronze medalist, the 2022 MK John Wilson Trophy silver medalist, a four-time ISU Challenger Series medalist (including gold at the 2020 CS Nebelhorn Trophy), and a four-time Latvian national champion (2016–18, 2020). Earlier in his career, Vasiļjevs became the 2016 Youth Olympics silver medalist and won two silver medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix (JGP) series. He is the first Latvian skater to make the podium at a JGP event and at an ISU Championships event. Personal life Deniss Vasiļjevs was born on 9 August 1999 in Daugavpils, Latvia.
