Mitchell High School (Indiana)
Mitchell High School is a small public high school located in Mitchell, Indiana, United States. History The graded public school system was first utilized in Mitchell in 1869. Ten years later, the Emerson School was built on 8th Street. Emerson was used as Mitchell's high school until 1903. In 1903, Mitchell received a new high school named Riley. This was used as the high school until a new high school was built next to the Emerson building in 1916. The 1916 building received additions in 1922, 1940, and 1949. The old Emerson was torn down in 1927 and a new Emerson Elementery and gym were built in its place. In May 1960, a fire destroyed the 1916 building and the 1922 addition. A new building was completed in time for the 1962 to 1963 school year. This building is still used today as the community's high school. Mitchell, Indiana
Mitchell is a city in Marion Township, Lawrence County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,350 at the 2010 census. History Mitchell was built as a railroad town in the mid-19th century. At this location in Lawrence County, the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad, better known by the shorter name of "the Monon", was built as a north-south line from New Albany to Chicago, passing through the area which became Mitchell in 1853. In 1857, the east-west Ohio and Mississippi Railway (later part of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad) was completed, as part of a link between Cincinnati and St. Louis. At the intersection of the two rail lines, a new town was planned. As the O&M railroad was surveyed, the owners of the land arranged for one of the surveyors, Ormsby McKnight Mitchel (1810–1862), a West Point graduate and professor at the University of Cincinnati, to plat their new town in exchange for naming it for him. Chase David Wayne Briscoe (born December 15, 1994) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 14 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing. He also owns a World of Outlaws sprint car racing team, Chase Briscoe Racing.
